90 Day Fiancé Star Jenny Slatten reveals ALS diagnosis

90 Day Fiancé star Jenny Slatten has revealed she was diagnosed with ALS in December, one year after she first experienced symptoms.

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is the most common type of Motor Neurone Disease, affecting the brain and spinal cord and impacting movement, speech, and independence.

Slatten, 68, issued a statement Tuesday about her decision to share the diagnosis. “There was a rumor that I had a stroke, but it turned out to be ALS,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “At first, we tried to keep it private because it’s been very emotional and overwhelming for us. We were hoping to find some kind of solution before speaking publicly.

“But after trying for some time, we feel like it’s time to reach out. Thank you so much for all the love and support. Right now, we are open to any kind of help — treatments, clinical trials, lifestyle changes, or anything that could help treat this disease or slow down its progression.”

The reality star and her husband Sumit Singh, 38, also told People of the diagnosis: “We’re doing what we can.”

Slatten told the publication she experienced her first ALS symptom in December 2024 when she choked “badly” as she was drinking water. Soon after, she had trouble swallowing and thought she had “some kind of infection,” so she was on a medication that briefly treated her pain.

However, she and her husband later noticed she had difficulties speaking, including avoiding conversations and often refusing to talk at all.

“That’s when we knew something was wrong,” Slatten said.

In December 2025, Slatten’s husband noticed that her speech was much slower during a 90 Day Fiancé holiday party in New York City. At the time, many of her fans on social media were also concerned about her health, with one suggesting that she could have ALS.

“And then I find out that these symptoms she was having — this is what it looks like,” Singh said.

Early symptoms of the disease, according to the U.S. National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, include: muscle twitches in the arm, leg, shoulder or tongue; cramps; tight or stiff muscles; muscle weakness; slurred or nasal speech; and difficulty chewing and swallowing.

The reality star — whose dad died from ALS a decade ago — and her husband met with several neurologists in India, where she learned her diagnosis. However, Singh told People that the progression of his wife’s disease is “slow” and they’re exploring possible treatments.

Slatten entered the reality TV world in 2019, appearing on the first season of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, which documented her move to India to be with Singh. The couple, who got married in 2021, is set to appear in the upcoming season of the series’ spin-off, 90 Day: The Last Resort.

Slatten is the latest TV star to share an ALS diagnosis. Last week, Russell Andrews, a veteran actor who appeared on Grey’s Anatomy and the show Better Call Saul, revealed that he was diagnosed with ALS last year.

During an appearance on CNN’s The Story Is with Elex Michaelson, alongside his fiancée, Justified actor Erica Tazel, Andrews said he initially feared he’d suffered a stroke during the Covid pandemic, before later recognizing what may have been early signs of the degenerative disease.

“There were twitches… I thought I was having pinched nerves in my neck and they were quite frequent,” he said.

Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane announced his ALS diagnosis in April 2025 and died in February this year.
