North West might belong to a family worth billions of dollars, but she is ready to cut her grill-adorned teeth behind the Starbucks counter.
The 13-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West revealed in an interview with Dazed magazine published Monday that, following the release of her debut album N0rth4evr in May, she plans to pursue music full-time one day — but not before she lives out her dream of being a barista.
“I still wanna work,” the teen told the outlet. “I wanna work at, like, Starbucks next year. I think I can next year ‘cause I’m gonna be 14, so… I think I can.”
“I want to have a regular job, I guess,” she added.
Employees typically have to be at least 16 years old to work at most Starbucks locations. The Independent has reached out to Starbucks for comment.
Although she is eyeing coffee as a side gig, North made it clear that she is serious about her music career by pushing back on critics who encourage her to wait until she is older to put out records.
“It’s like, nah, this is my hobby,” North explained. “This is what I like to do, this is what I wanna do with my life.”
North was just 12 years old when she flung herself into the rock star scene by dropping her debut EP and then making a surprise appearance on stage with Molly Santana at Rolling Loud festival in Orlando shortly after.
In June, she went on to make her first-ever solo music festival performance at Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash in Bridgeview, Illinois.
However, the young rapper’s fans were disappointed when plans for her first headlining tour were called off earlier this month.
The 14-date North American tour with Molly Santana was set to kick off August 5 in Dallas, Texas, and end August 27 in Los Angeles, but was abruptly canceled days before the first show.
“I was really excited to go on tour (with) Molly Santana, sadly it isn’t happening anymore, but I have something special for you guys, see you soon,” North said in a statement at the time.
Plus, the teen is not limiting herself to one creative pursuit. Before her Starbucks dreams, North and her mom appeared to be laying out the groundwork for her to launch her own fashion empire when the Kardashians’ family lawyers filed three trademark applications earlier this year for the brand NOR11.
