Simu Liu marries Allison Hsu in France as Reneé Rapp sings ‘At Last’ for first dance

Actor Simu Liu married Allison Hsuon 3 October at France’s Château d’Estoublon after a weekend of celebrations that also included a welcome party at a former limestone quarry-turned immersive art venue, according to Vogue.

Hsu, the vice-president of digital marketing at Interscope Records, chose a wedding gown by Taiwanese label Nicole + Felicia to honour her parents, who were born and raised in Taiwan.

The actor said he felt like his late grandparents were “sending reassurance” as he watched his bride walk down the aisle at the 17th-century estate in southern France.

“I couldn’t stop thinking about how perfect everything was,” Liu told the publication. “Our friends and guests looked absolutely beautiful, and then the moment Allison stood at the top of the aisle, I was overwhelmed with emotion looking at my life partner.”

The Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star also revealed that the rain which fell before the ceremony carried a personal significance. His grandparents, who died from Covid-19 in 2021, raised him in China until he was four and a half years old.

“The rainfall just before our ceremony was the most convinced I have ever been that something greater exists beyond our comprehension,” Liu said.

He recalled that it had begun to drizzle just as his parents took their seats in Provence.

“It seemed so coincidental, the timing and the gentle droplets, as if someone was sending reassurance that they were watching,” he said. “A part of me believes they were with us.”

Woody Harrelson, Liu’s co-star in the 2025 film Last Breath, read Blessing of the Hands by Reverend Daniel Harris, while Hsu’s brother Joshua read Union, a passage by Robert Fulghum.

“To be able to wear a design from a powerhouse Taiwanese sister duo on my wedding day felt like the perfect way to honor my family,” Hsu told Vogue.

“My parents and my own sister were moved when I shared the story of this dress with them.”

Liu also incorporated his heritage into his wedding outfit, wearing a look by the Asian-Canadian brand Garrison Bespoke, paired with a Versace jacket.

At the reception, Renee Rapp performed Etta James’s “At Last” for the couple’s first dance, while Canadian DJ duo Loud Luxury played later in the evening. Later in the night, Liu’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings co-star Benedict Wong appeared as his musical alter ego, DJ Obi-Wong, to continue the party.

The couple first went public with their relationship in November 2022, when they appeared together at the Los Angeles premiere of Violent Night. They announced their engagement in May 2025, with Liu writing that he chose Hsu “forever and always”.

In a 2023 interview with People, Liu said: “She’s absolutely changed my life, so I’m very, very grateful to have her,” he said.
