Since its inception in 1984, the MTV Video Music Awards have been a spectacle for weird and wonderful red carpet looks.
Today, it is still one of the most illustrious awards showcases, where stars test out their most scene-stealing outfits. After all, it was where Rose McGowan turned heads in her naked dress made from string (in 1998), Lil’ Kim walked the red carpet in seashell nipple pasties (1999) and Lady Gaga donned her infamous meat dress (2010).
This year’s ceremony, hosted by Snoop Dogg, takes place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with nominees including Madonna — who will perform at the ceremony for the first time in 23 years — Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Bruno Mars.
