What does manga hiatus mean?
Manga hiatus simply means a temporary break from chapter releases in which the production team takes a step back from the production for some solid reason. Some of these breaks are announced well in advance, and sometimes it happens very suddenly. It does not mean that the manga has ended; it only means you won’t have new chapters for a while.
Manga deadlines are very important
Manga releases follow a very difficult deadline, and it becomes very hard for the creators to always be on their toes to follow those deadlines; in order to do so, they have to be very quick, which compromises the manga’s quality. In order to not let the manga’s quality suffer, a break is taken so that the quality can be taken care of.
Mangaka’s health
If we give you Eiichiro Oda’s example, then you probably know how Oda has been illustrating One Piece for the last 29 years, and it takes a lot of mental strength and effort to do it with the accuracy he does. The mangaka, especially since last year, has been taking frequent breaks because of his health, and fans mostly understand it and, in fact, do post about it too, asking Oda to take as much rest as possible because of the immense respect they have for him.

Special holidays can hold up the release too
A lot of times, magazines are also on a break because of some special day in Japan, which stops the production. At times, the team also changes the schedule because of limited space and some editorial decisions that can’t be overlooked.
Overall, these breaks, be it for any reason, are made to ensure that when the chapters are released, they come back with the best quality because readers expect the best out of these manga.
