President Donald Trump said he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine, even as Moscow warned Wednesday that Western troops deployed to enforce any eventual peace deal would become Russian military targets.

“I say, ‘Vladimir, it’s time for you to stop. It’s time for this war to end,’” Trump told Fox News chief foreign correspondent Trey Yingst in an interview released Tuesday. 

Trump said he believed Putin was “ready to make a deal” to end the fighting.

Meanwhile, fighting continued across Ukraine and Russian-occupied territory. 

The intensifying drone war has forced both militaries to search for additional ways to intercept unmanned aircraft, sometimes using weapons designed decades before modern drones emerged.

The weapon begins spinning violently, dragging the service member around before throwing him several yards from the mounting. Another soldier ducks as the gun swings in his direction. 

East2West reported that no one was injured, though Fox News Digital has not independently verified the location, date or circumstances of the footage.

The four-barrel machine gun was originally developed for use aboard the Soviet-designed Mi-24 Hind attack helicopter. Russian forces have reportedly attempted to repurpose such weapons as ground-based defenses against Ukrainian drones, East2West news reported.

On Wednesday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said any multinational force deployed by Ukraine’s allies after a ceasefire would be unacceptable to Moscow.

“We would regard such units as legitimate military targets,” Zakharova said, according to a Reuters report published Wednesday.

Members of the Western “coalition of the willing” reaffirmed at a meeting in Paris this week that they intend to deploy a multinational force after hostilities end. The proposed force would seek to reassure Ukraine and help Kyiv rebuild its military.

Ukraine’s military said Wednesday that its forces struck the Balaklava thermal power station in Russian-occupied Crimea, a facility that accounts for nearly half of the peninsula’s electricity generation, according to Reuters. 

Russia, meanwhile, launched another major drone and missile attack against Ukraine’s southern Odesa region, killing three people, regional Governor Oleh Kiper said. He said civilian, industrial and port infrastructure had been targeted during five consecutive days of Russian attacks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said Wednesday that Ukraine expects to develop the technical capability to manufacture missiles for U.S.-made Patriot air-defense systems by the end of 2026.

A Cyclospora parasite outbreak has put lettuce in the spotlight as investigators examine a possible link to Taco Bell, raising concerns among consumers about whether it’s still safe to eat fresh greens.

While investigators have not identified a specific product or supplier as the source of the outbreak, interviews with sick patients have repeatedly pointed to lettuce and other salad greens as common exposures, and many of those patients also reported eating at Taco Bell before becoming ill.

The chain has voluntarily removed select fresh ingredients at certain locations while public health officials continue their investigation.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, California-based Taco Bell Corp. said, “The health and safety of our guests is our top priority. Public health officials have not confirmed a link to Taco Bell or any specific ingredient, supplier, restaurant or retailer. While authorities continue their broader review, Taco Bell has voluntarily and temporarily removed limited ingredients at select restaurants as a precautionary measure. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and follow the guidance of public health authorities.”

What is Cyclospora?

Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite (Cyclospora cayetanensis) that infects the small intestine after people consume contaminated food or water, according to the CDC.

The agency confirmed that 1,645 domestic Cyclospora cases have been reported since May 1, most often linked to fresh produce, including leafy greens, cilantro and berries.

The CDC is also investigating more than 5,100 additional suspected cases, with a total of 145 people having been hospitalized with the infection.

“Cyclosporiasis is not generally a life-threatening illness for most people,” Tammy Lundstrom, MD, senior vice president and chief medical officer of Trinity Health in Michigan, told Fox News Digital.

“The biggest concern is that it can cause severe, prolonged diarrhea that may last for weeks or even longer if it’s not diagnosed and treated.”

People should seek medical attention if they have lasting, severe diarrhea. The symptoms can be very prolonged in people with compromised immune systems, Lundstrom noted.

Experts share food safety guidance

Dr. Marc Siegel, Fox News senior medical analyst, said the parasite has been primarily identified in packaged lettuce and salad bags, but no particular brand has been pinpointed.

“In the meantime, the best strategy is to wash lettuce and all salad greens thoroughly and to wash your hands with soap and water before and after preparing food,” he told Fox News Digital, adding that “the chances of acquiring it still remains extremely low.”

Registered dietitian nutritionist Caroline Margolis, the on-staff registered dietitian at Lifeway Foods, an Illinois-based company best known for its kefir and other cultured dairy products, also weighed in on the risk.

“While health officials have identified lettuce as the likely culprit, the exact source remains unknown,” she told Fox News Digital.

For now, she recommends skipping prewashed, bagged lettuce and salad mixes.

“Instead, choose whole heads of lettuce, discarding the outer two to three leaves, and wash and rinse thoroughly,” Margolis advised. “If you do develop cyclosporiasis, stay hydrated and seek medical care if needed.”

“Be sure to support your recovery with nutrient-rich, easy-to-digest foods and probiotic options like kefir, yogurt, bananas, apples and oatmeal.”

Lundstrom reiterated that it ’s unclear whether any specific fresh produce is responsible, even though past outbreaks have sometimes been linked to fruits and vegetables.

“Federal public health authorities have not issued any warnings to avoid lettuce or other fresh produce at this time,” she told Fox News Digital. “It is recommended to thoroughly wash lettuce and other leafy greens, which can significantly reduce the amount of any pathogen present.”

Until further information is known, Lundstrom said iceberg is currently a better option for lettuce. She recommends first washing the entire head, then discarding the outermost leaves.

“Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly when handling and preparing fresh produce,” she added.

For those who wish to take further precautions, frozen and canned produce may be safer options, according to the dietitian.

“It’s important to follow CDC recommendations for safe food and vegetable handling and preparation to help reduce the risk of illness,” she said.

Those recommendations include the following.

  • Wash hands with soap and water before and after handling or preparing raw fruits and vegetables.
  • Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly under running water before eating, cutting or cooking.
  • Fruits and vegetables that are labeled “prewashed” do not need to be washed again at home.
  • Scrub firm fruits and vegetables, such as melons and cucumbers, with a clean produce brush.
  • Cut away any damaged or bruised areas on fruits and vegetables before preparing and eating.
  • Refrigerate cut, peeled or cooked fruits and vegetables as soon as possible (within two hours).

U.S. troops unloaded what Fox News Digital is told was China’s only aid flight sent to Venezuela so far as the country continues to reel from last month’s back-to-back earthquakes.

Photos provided by the U.S. government show an Air China plane landing at Simón Bolívar Airport July 6, nearly two weeks after the quakes hit on June 24.

The supplies from the Chinese government were then taken off the aircraft by U.S. soldiers, who have been leading the disaster response and aid distribution efforts.

In the photos provided to Fox News Digital, U.S. service members lifted large packages out of shipping containers, using large vehicles to move and organize pallets on the tarmac and loading boxes into trucks for transport.

“Secretary Rubio promised the Trump administration’s response to the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela would be big, fast and effective. We continue to deliver on that commitment,” State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“While some countries say they’ll deliver aid — weeks after natural disasters occur — America shows up, unloads the aid and ensures that assistance reaches the hands of those who truly need it thanks to our close coordination with the Department of War and the great public-private partnerships our Department has spearheaded.”

The U.S. has moved more than 1.5 million pounds of assistance into Venezuela since the earthquakes struck June 24, according to the State Department.

A big part of that was repairing Simón Bolívar Airport, which sits just outside the capital city of Caracas after its runways were seriously damaged in the natural disaster.

“The U.S. military was able to repair that airfield and get it up and running to allow for C-17 and other large aircraft to land there. And that’s very important as we continue to obviously get international relief supplies in,” a senior State Department official told reporters in late June.

One runway is operational at the airport, and one of the first American flights into the airport was carrying forklifts to help get supplies unloaded off future flights, according to the State Department official.

Florida-based Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), one of the leading nonprofits gathering and sending aid to Venezuela, said it aims to deliver 100,000 boxes of supplies monthly for the next three to six months, according to The Associated Press.

According to GEM’s website, it has shipped nearly 1 million pounds of aid. This includes over 38,000 hygiene kits, more than 27,000 tents and tarps and 48 generators.

GEM founder and President Michael Capponi told the AP delivering aid to Venezuela now is a “whole different animal” compared to when he tried to send supplies during the reign of Nicolás Maduro.

Maduro, who was captured and deposed during a U.S.-led raid Jan. 3, did not allow Capponi into the country.

“We land a private plane. It gets unloaded by U.S. soldiers. It goes in a truck we pay for and to a warehouse that we completely control. It doesn’t touch the hands of the Venezuelan government,” he said.

The State Department said July 9 that the U.S. government has committed more than $386 million in financial assistance to Venezuela flowing through trusted partner groups. 

The Chinese foreign minister announced in late June a $14.72 million commitment for financial and material aid to Venezuela, according to Chinese state-run media.

Nearly two weeks after the earthquakes struck, Chinese state media reported about what they called the first batch of aid arriving at Simón Bolívar International Airport on July 6. State media said Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil and Chinese Ambassador to Venezuela Lan Hu received the shipment, said to include tents and generators, at the airport.

In late June, the U.S. also mobilized more than 300 search and rescue personnel throughout the country. 

The Miami Herald reported last week that those teams left after they “completed their mission.”

As of Tuesday, 4,734 people have died from the earthquakes, according to figures released by the Venezuelan government, cited by Reuters. Additionally, there are at least 16,740 people injured, while nearly 18,000 people are homeless.

The earthquakes have destroyed 190 buildings and damaged over 850, Venezuelan officials told the AP.

ATLANTA — Lionel Messi faces England in the World Cup semifinals on Wednesday with the chance to move clear of Kylian Mbappé in the race for the golden boot.

Messi and Mbappé are tied on eight goals for the tournament. Messi is also the all-time top scorer in World Cups with 21 goals.

Stopping him is the biggest challenge for England in Atlanta.

“It’s just incredible his campaign, this tournament, how he carries that team, it’s just absolutely incredible,” England coach Thomas Tuchel said of Messi. “There are no words … left for this kind of achievement, the responsibility and the quality that he shows again in this tournament.”

At the age of 39 this could be Messi’s last World Cup and he could surpass Argentina great Diego Maradona by winning the trophy for a second time after victory in Qatar in 2022. Maradona led his country to the title in 1986 and was runner-up four years later.

Argentina is aiming to become the first team to win back-to-back titles since Brazil in 1958 and 62.

England’s star players Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham are also in contention for the golden boot with six goals each.

Despite France losing to Spain in the semifinals, Mbappé could still add to his goals tally if he plays in the third-place match against England or Argentina.

Modern medicine has made significant advances in cancer treatments over the decades. But all cancer therapies still face one critical challenge: how to target cancers without damaging healthy cells.

Imperfect solutions lead to side-effects: surgery and radiation can damage nearby healthy tissue, while chemotherapy can indiscriminately target fast-growing cells, damaging healthy hair follicles and stomach lining.

An alternative approach involves recruiting a surprising ally: bacteria. Some species of bacteria cannot survive in the presence of oxygen. They live in low-oxygen environments such as deep in the soil or at the bottom of lakes. These so-called anaerobes are generally unable to infect healthy tissues, in which oxygen is abundant.

In contrast, cancerous tumours are not well-oxygenated. As tumours grow, their blood supply becomes abnormal and inefficient, leading to poorly oxygenated regions in the tumour interior. This low oxygen environment provides a unique niche for an anaerobic bacterial infection.

To employ these bacteria in cancer therapies, doctors could inject a patient with dormant spores of an anaerobe. Those spores would travel the bloodstream and remain inert in healthy oxygenated tissue. When spores find their way into tumours, they can initiate self-limiting infections that could suppress the tumour. That’s the goal. The reality is more complicated.

Together with colleagues Bahram Zargar, CEO & Co-Founder of CREM Co Labs, and Sara Sadr, both alumni of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, we recently published research, that investigates the cancer-fighting potential of the bacterium Clostridium sporogenes.

History of using bacteria to treating cancer

Reports of cancer regression caused by bacterial infections have been made for millennia. In the context of modern medicine, William Coley, a physician working in New York at the turn of the 20th century, documented the case of a patient whose cancerous tumours had been repressed by a nasty infection.

Coley began testing therapies by injecting cancer patients with live bacteria harvested from these infections. In his early documentation of cases, one third of patients showed improvements, the majority showed no response and about five per cent died of the infection.

Not an encouraging start. But he persevered, and developed a treatment using heat-treated bacteria that resulted in better outcomes. These treatments, which involved stimulation of the immune system (an early example of immunotherapy), came to be known as Coley’s toxins.

The popularity of Coley’s treatments waned as other therapeutic approaches were developed. Treatment by surgery became safer, while radiation treatments and chemotherapy proved effective. These were much easier to characterize than the microbes in Coley’s toxins.

C. sporogenes and our research

Bacterial therapies continued to be the subject of research. In the mid-20th century, clinical trials were conducted to test the results of injection with spores of the anaerobic bacterium Clostridium sporogenes, a non-pathogenic soil bacterium. You may be familiar with C. sporogenes’ more famous cousins, such as C. tetani, which causes tetanus, and C. botulinum, the source of botox.

Pre-clinical tests in mice had confirmed that injected spores of C. sporogenes remained inactive in healthy tissue but grew in tumours. Patients in the clinical trials exhibited some tumour regression, but it was short-lived.

The bacterial cells damaged the tumour interior, but they did not reach the outer rim of the tumour, which is more oxygenated. The tumours continued to grow from those unaffected outer rims.

Fast forward to the 21st century and modern advances in genetic engineering. The field of synthetic biology is focused on building novel biological entities as tools to address engineering challenges.

The synthetic biology toolbox can be used to construct variants of anaerobic bacteria that can be more effective tumour suppressors than their native cousins.

Oxygen intolerance of C. sporogenes enables tumour targeting but also limits therapeutic potential. Recognizing that fact, we are pursuing an engineering solution that could realize the targeting benefit without facing the performance limitation.

We have engineered cells of the bacterium C. sporogenes cells in two ways: first by introducing a gene that enhances the bacteria’s ability to tolerate oxygen. The goal is to enable it to penetrate further toward a tumour’s outer rim.

Second, we introduced a control system that activates the bacteria only under desired conditions. This control system, called quorum sensing, ensures that the engineered oxygen tolerance is only “turned on” when bacterial cells have found a tumour and have grown to a threshold population density.

Future studies could connect this control system to other bacterial activities, such as activation of drug particles or stimulation of the host immune system.

Our investigation is still in the early stages. Its continued development will contribute to the research community’s efforts to engineer live biotherapeutic products toward improving the treatment of cancer.

LOS ANGELES — YouTube has appealed the verdict of a landmark social media addiction lawsuit in Los Angeles, seeking to challenge the jury’s determination that the company designed its platform to hook young users without concern for their well-being.

Lawyers representing YouTube filed a notice of appeal Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, less than a week after Meta, which was also a defendant in the case, filed its own notice of appeal. The lawyers are expected to provide their arguments related to the appeal in later court filings.

The case centered on a 20-year-old woman who said she became addicted to social media as a child and that it worsened her mental health struggles. The jury found that negligence by both Google-owned YouTube and Meta was a substantial factor in causing harm to the young woman, identified in court only by her initials, KGM, and her first name, Kaley.

The jury awarded her $3 million in damages and recommended an additional $3 million in punitive damages. Her lead attorney, Mark Lanier, said in a statement last week following Meta’s appeal that Kaley’s legal team is expecting the appellate court to “continue the careful application of the law to this case, affirming the verdict of the trial court.”

José Castañeda, a spokesperson for Google, said in a statement last week that YouTube was planning to appeal and that “these are standard motions for this case to move forward.”

Meta and Google had each filed post-trial motions seeking a new trial. The trial judge, Carolyn B. Kuhl, denied those motions in early June.

One of YouTube’s core arguments during the five-week trial was that its platform, which offers video sharing and streaming, is not a social media platform.

Lawyers for both YouTube and Meta also consistently posed questions throughout the trial about whether the evidence and arguments encroached on legal protections for tech companies around content posted by third parties. Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act shields these companies from legal responsibility for such content. The plaintiff’s lawyers instead focused on the design features like autoplay functions that they argued could lead to more long-lasting, less intentional use of the platforms.

Kaley’s case was a first-of-its-kind lawsuit, and the verdict could influence the outcome of thousands of similar lawsuits accusing social media companies of deliberately causing harm. TikTok and Snapchat parent company Snap Inc. were also initially named as defendants in the case, but each settled for undisclosed sums before the trial began.

SpaceX share price drops below stock market debut


SpaceX’s share price has dropped below its stock market debut just over a month ago, falling sharply from a post-float peak.

The price for a single share in Elon Musk’s rocket, satellite and artificial intelligence (AI) company fell to $132.62 (£98.24) on Wednesday, below its initial listing of $135 in June.

SpaceX’s initial public offering (IPO) made Musk the world’s first trillionaire. Compared to its on-the-day high so far, the stock price is now down 41%.

If the price holds, or falls further, it will mean that those who purchased stock around the time of its flotation will stand to lose money on their investment.

Even amid a tumultuous few weeks for tech stocks, SpaceX has taken a particular hit.

Compared to a 0.2% fall on the wider Nasdaq index, where SpaceX’s shares are listed, the company’s stock price fell more than 2% on Wednesday.

SpaceX stock has been volatile since it began trading on the public stock market a little over one month ago.

After an initial investor frenzy that saw the company valued at more than Amazon and Microsoft, the price of its shares has drifted downward.

Initially, SpaceX was treated by investors as the first chance they had to invest in an AI company, according to what financial market analysts and experts recently told the BBC,

Earlier this year, SpaceX acquired Musk’s AI start-up xAI, recently renamed SpaceXAI, marking it’s first foray into an AI-focused business.

XAI is best known for the controversial chatbot Grok, but through that acquisition, SpaceX now leases data centre capacity to other tech companies.

The company’s main business is the manufacture and launch of rockets and telecommunications satellites called Starlink.

When Starlink said it was cutting prices in the Memphis, Tennessee area amid local concerns over a massive data centre project, SpaceX shares fell by 8%.

Steve Sosnick, chief market analyst at Interactive Brokers, told Reuters: “There hasn’t been anything that lately to remind people of some of the catalysts for why they bought SpaceX.”

SpaceX is expected to release in August its first public earnings report.

Sosnick added: “The fact that a stock has fallen a couple of dollars below its IPO price in itself is not a tragedy, but SpaceX is heavily watched and has an important role in investor psyche.”

SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Social media feeds have recently been flooded with wellness influencers warning about the dangers of high cortisol.

But is this complex hormone truly something people should try to eliminate, or is it a victim of online hyperbole?

In a recent Fox & Friends segment, Ainsley Earhardt sat down with New York City-based certified dietitian and nutritionist Amy Shapiro to separate fact from fiction.

Why we need cortisol

Despite its reputation, cortisol is a biological necessity. Produced by the adrenal glands, it is the body’s primary stress hormone.

“It does help us in many ways,” Shapiro said during the segment.

“It helps us get out of bed in the morning. You have a cortisol spike. Gives you that energy to get up and go. It helps to protect you when you have to run … It helps support your immune system.”

Under normal conditions, cortisol levels follow a natural 24-hour cycle, peaking in the morning to help the body wake up and gradually dropping to their lowest point at night. 

Problems arise when the body remains in a prolonged state of stress, causing cortisol levels to stay elevated.

According to Mayo Clinic, chronic exposure to high cortisol can disrupt almost all of the body’s processes, contributing to anxiety, sleep issues and weight gain.

Shapiro highlighted these as markers of cortisol imbalance, along with additional warning signs like frequent illness and feelings of burnout.

While influencers often attribute a puffy face (“moon face”) entirely to cortisol, Shapiro said this is often misleading.

“It could be your diet, it could be high salt, it could be [inadequate] hydration. Maybe we’re not all walking around with these taxed cortisol levels.”

Those who suspect their levels are off-balance shouldn’t rely on self-diagnosis, the expert advised. A doctor can order saliva or blood tests to accurately measure hormone levels.

Managing levels naturally

Managing spikes starts with identifying and avoiding common daily triggers. Shapiro pointed out that caffeine can increase cortisol levels, especially when consumed on an empty stomach.

She added that exercising and doing high-intensity interval training late at night can also cause a spike in cortisol. “It’s better to do it in the morning when your cortisol levels are naturally high,” she recommended.

Shapiro also cautioned against “eating ultraprocessed foods, eating high-sugar foods, drinking soda and not eating a balanced diet,” as well as “high stress, not getting adequate sleep, not moving your body.”

“Recognizing that we do live in a high-stress society right now, taking time to manage our stress is a good idea,” she added.

Major League Wrestling’s (MLW) alliances with other promotions around the world allow the opportunity for some star-studded matches and it’s already been seen.

Shotzi Blackheart recently defended the MLW Women’s World Championship against Kira, of Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), on the latest episode of “Fusion.” She could also have the chance to go up against anyone from the Stardom roster. The possibilities are seemingly endless.

However, there’s one singles match she’s hoping to get a shot at. And that’s against CMLL world women’s champion Persephone. The two locked horns in a fatal four-way match in April but Shotzi is hoping that she gets another opportunity.

“Oh my god. I touched her a teeny, little bit during Mania week,” she recalled to Fox News Digital. “I had a four-way (match) with her and I can already tell you we have chemistry.

For now, Shotzi will turn her attention to MLW’s Skyscrapers – Donovan Dijak and Josh Bishop. She will be in the corner of Mads Krule Krugger and The Good Brothers – Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows – as they go up against the tag team champions.
