Smelly outside toilets, muddy fields, day drinking and not sleeping might sound like a familiar festival experience to many.
But, as people spend more money on activities that improve their wellbeing – it is a multi-trillion pound industry – music events are dedicating spaces to things like yoga classes and wood-fired saunas, to appeal to festival-goers.
Worth more than £160bn, the UK’s wellness industry is continuing to grow in 2026 and the average consumer spent about a third more in 2024 than five years before that, according to the Global Wellness Institute.
Organisers of the Boardmasters festival, in Newquay, Cornwall, said they have seen a massive shift in demand for wellness, as attendees seek to “maintain their at-home rituals” like morning yoga, runs or treatments while at the event.
“Five or 10 years ago, wellness was very much a niche add-on. Now it’s a core part of why people come,” organisers said.
Qatar’s former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has died at the age of 74, the country’s Amiri Diwan said.
“With hearts steadfast in faith in God’s decree and destiny, the Amiri Diwan mourns the great loss to the nation of the late – may God have mercy on him – His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away this morning,” the Amiri Diwan said in a statement on Sunday.
For some urban commuters, the new city location offers a better experience than older formats. Kelvin Dozier, who usually shops at an Aldi in Brooklyn, recently started visiting the Manhattan location right across from his office for convenience.
“The one here – it’s brighter,” Dozier told the BBC, noting the fresh sweet navel oranges in his basket. “The one in Brooklyn is a little smaller. It almost seems temporary, but here it looks like a permanent location.”
Still, winning over city slickers accustomed to premium brands remains an uphill battle. Ralph Montenegro, visiting Aldi for the first time, remained fiercely loyal to competitors.
“It has more variety than say Target,” Montenegro said, praising the prices on staples like flour and fruit, though he noted he still prefers Trader Joe’s. He added that Aldi’s heavy reliance on packaged, private-label processed foods was a detractor compared to the natural organic options he prefers.
This strict reliance on limited, private labels is exactly what keeps Aldi’s overheads low, according to Dustin York, an associate professor of communication at Maryville University.
He says that Aldi targets a lean, highly efficient model that provides about 80% of what a traditional big-box retailer carries, but at a much lower cost.
Still, York argues it is unlikely that Aldi will take dramatic market share from Walmart, because the retail giant is simply too massive. “I call Walmart the battleship, and I call Aldi a kind of submarine.”
But navigating those crowded waters can bring a distinct financial hazard.
“Their biggest kryptonite is real estate cost,” York warned, pointing to a brutal Manhattan retail landscape where average asking rents are between $350 and $700 per square foot.
The new daily Wegovy pill went on sale in the UK for the first time last week through pharmacies and online platforms, priced from £79 for new patients. Like the injections, the pills contain semaglutide and suppress appetite, but the tablets are being heralded as a game-changer and far more convenient than the injections, which are currently being used by more than 1.6m people in the UK – with adverts proclaiming “needle-free weight loss has arrived” as if we are coming out of the Dark Ages.

Rather than a two-second injection in my bathroom once a week, this is what taking weight-loss pills would look like: I’d wake up in the morning and Wegovy would have to be the first thing on my mind. That is after fasting for at least eight hours – so no sneaking into the kitchen for an apple in the night when my OAP golden retriever wakes me up by barking to go out – as the tablet has to be swallowed whole on an empty stomach.
The manufacturer recommends taking the pill as soon as you get out of bed for optimal absorption into your bloodstream. Semaglutide is damaged by stomach acid – and taking it orally means you need to follow an exact plan.
It’s this kind of strict regime which is off-putting to me. You can’t even have a cup of coffee first, which is the only thing that gets me moving in the mornings. Not only that, but you have to take it with no more than 120ml of plain water, so that means getting the measuring jug out until you’re sure you know how much water to fill your glass with and then waiting – yes, for 30 minutes – without eating or drinking anything at all, or taking any other medication.
Out goes my delicious Greek yoghurt and blueberry breakfast in the morning rush; I’m not sure a Wegovy pill would supply me with the same sustenance. I could wake up half an hour earlier, but honestly, it all sounds like way too much work. The obsessively strict routine is much more complicated than my current method – I microdose once a month by injecting myself as a maintenance step. And even when I was taking it regularly, I only needed a weekly jab of the pen rather than remembering it daily, which I could give myself at any time of the day, and I could eat as much as I wanted beforehand.
Yet for many the pill form is being seen as a magic bullet. In the US, 70 to 80 per cent of people who started taking Wegovy tablets this year had not previously used weight-loss injections, according to reports, which suggests that the oral version is going to be a blockbuster drug appealing to those who had been put off by the injections. Certainly, pharmacies are already seeing a surge of interest in the UK, according to the National Pharmacy Association (NPA).

Admittedly, I got over my needle phobia when I did IVF, which had been so bad I’d never even got my ears pieced, but I knew the Wegovy Flexipen needles were ultra short and fine – and delivered the medication into the subcutaneous fat layer, rather than the muscle, making the weekly injection pretty painless.
I will admit that it did feel strange getting my Wegovy pen out of the fridge from behind the carrots and jabbing myself in the tummy once a week in secret – because I felt shame at “cheating”.
But by the time I’d piled on the pounds after two pregnancies and been stress-eating while juggling life as a single mum and caring for my ailing dad, the GP told me my cholesterol levels were so high I’d need statins. I decided to get a private prescription of Wegovy in 2024 to lose the unhealthy 3st I’d put on: it worked over 18 months, at a total of £3042.
I followed the “Wegovy Wednesday” trend, taking my weekly dose mid-week so it kicked in for the weekend when temptation was more rife. How would this work in pill form? Well, it wouldn’t – and it rules out microdosing, which involves taking doses lower than standard FDA-approved guidelines – an “off-label” method I’ve used to reduce side effects, cut costs, and taper off dependence on the drug.

How to break a Wegovy pill in half, or quarters, to work out the dosage accurately would no doubt end up in crumbly bits. This would be fine if it were aspirin, but difficult with something which demands more accuracy. Measuring dosage is much easier using the dial on the Wegovy pen.
And what if you accidentally double-dose on the Wegovy tablet one morning by mistake? I’m always forgetting to take my low-dose thyroid medication, which ultimately doesn’t make or break my situation – but missing the Wegovy pill? What then? If you’re anything like me, hectically trying to make packed lunches, feed the kids and get them out of the door to school each morning, it wouldn’t be that hard to do. The result could be double dosing, maybe making existing side effects – feeling nauseous, being sick, diarrhoea, headaches, dehydration – even worse.
I’ve always stuck to low doses of Wegovy so as not to get side effects. Another huge concern is that the pills are reportedly easier to counterfeit than the injections on the black market. A survey of 310 pharmacies by the NPA found 97 per cent were concerned the change could lead to an increase in fake pills being sold by unregulated suppliers.
As pharmacies across the UK are preparing for an overwhelming demand for the new Wegovy pill, I won’t be one of those in the queue. The NHS rollout could take years – according to reports – but I don’t think people realise there are downsides.
Yes, it’s true that it makes going on holiday with your weight-loss drugs easier as the injection pens need to be refrigerated, but setting reminders and the strict rules it requires to take a Wegovy pill daily aren’t for me. It all sounds like hard work. Although the other alternative of following a calorie-controlled diet and gym regimen would obviously be so much harder.
The US said it launched a fresh wave of strikes on Iran after Tehran struck a ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it closed the waterway until further notice and warned of a severe response to US “aggression”, according to state media.
Within hours of the US strikes, the IRGC said they had hit a US base in Jordan, while the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain were all responding to missiles and drones from Iran.
It comes after incidents earlier this week in which three commercial tankers were attacked, prompting an exchange of strikes with the US.
US Central Command (Centcom) said it launched a third round of strikes this week after the IRGC “blatantly attacked” a Cyprus-flagged vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
Centcom said the MV GFS Galaxy was “unable to continue its journey” as a result of significant damage to the engine room. One civilian crew member was missing, it said.
The UK’s Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it had been informed by military authorities that the crew were forced to abandon ship and were in a lifeboat.
“Iran was provided yet another opportunity to demonstrate adherence to the Memorandum of Understanding after being held accountable for earlier attacks on commercial vessels but has again failed,” Centcom wrote in a statement shared to X.
The statement was shared by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who wrote: “Iran made a poor choice. Now they pay.”
The IRGC said the US had targeted “a number of coastal bases and telecommunications towers on the southern coast”.
In response, Iran said its “first phase” of retaliation included strikes on the Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, saying it had destroyed the base’s command and control centre and MQ9 drone hangars.
Earlier on Sunday, state media said Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz until further notice after firing a naval cruise missile at a vessel that was attempting to sail along an unapproved route.
The Guards said the vessel was “hit by warning shots and stopped” after ignoring repeated instructions, according to a statement carried by state news agency
It also warned that any US “aggression” as a result of the closure would be responded to with “severity” and new bases in the region would be targeted.
Nearly five years after his last walk to the Octagon, Conor McGregor made his long-awaited UFC return Saturday night against fellow MMA star Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 329 in Las Vegas.
McGregor opened aggressively, attempting a running kick before throwing a head kick moments later. He appeared to slip on both tries. Holloway quickly capitalized after the second, taking top position and landing a right hand before McGregor was able to work his way back to his feet.
Moments later, McGregor hit the canvas again after trying to throw a kick with his right leg, which appeared to buckle underneath him.

The official inside the Octagon waved off the fight moments later, giving Holloway a TKO victory.
During the broadcast, UFC CEO Dana White pointed to a first-round replay that appeared to show the moment McGregor suffered the injury. The apparent injury was not to the same leg McGregor broke during his 2021 fight against Dustin Poirier, which led to a lengthy absence from the Octagon.
The loss extended McGregor’s long winless drought, with his last UFC victory coming by first-round TKO against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in January 2020.
McGregor earned a unanimous decision over Holloway in a featherweight clash in 2013, when neither was an MMA megastar. In the blink of an eye, McGregor’s star rose.

On Wednesday, he admitted he got caught up in his own stardom after winning UFC belts in two weight classes and becoming one of the biggest names in combat sports.
“I launched an Irish whiskey,” McGregor said. “I didn’t drink heavily, if at all, at that time of my life. I was an athlete at the top of my game. Next thing you know, thousands upon thousands of bottles (are) in my garage.
“‘Sell this, Conor.’ OK, I’d leave my property with two bottles under my arm, and that was it. I was caught. And I wasn’t used to it. And that’s it. God gave me these lessons. That’s it. I was trapped and caught, and it is what it is.”

Months after capturing their second Super Bowl title, the Seattle Seahawks are poised to begin the 2026 season under a new ownership structure. A group led by Vinod Khosla, his wife Neeru and their son Neal is set to become the fourth ownership group in the franchise’s 51-year history.
The Khosla family reportedly reached a $9.6 billion agreement with the Paul Allen estate to take controlling interest in the Seahawks, a record price tag for an NFL franchise.
The NFL’s most recent ownership change came in 2023, when a group led by Josh Harris purchased the Washington Commanders for a then-record $6.05 billion.

The Seahawks’ reported $9.6 billion price tag would easily eclipse the NFL’s all-time sale record, but it still wouldn’t surpass the $10 billion sale of the Los Angeles Lakers last October — the richest deal in North American sports history.
The Seahawks confirmed the pending sale in a statement, though financial terms were not disclosed.
Vinod Khosla, a limited partner with the San Francisco 49ers, will be required to sell his family’s minority stake in the team as part of the agreement before becoming the Seahawks’ controlling owner.
“We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks,” Vinod Khosla said in a statement on behalf of the Khosla family. “We look forward to building on the winning legacy Paul Allen created and to earning the trust of the Seahawks organization and fans everywhere.”

Before the sale can become official, it must be approved by at least 24 of the NFL’s 32 owners. That vote could come as soon as late next month at a league meeting, according to ESPN, though the deal must first be reviewed by the league’s finance committee.
Beyond the Khosla family, it remains unclear what other parties are possibly involved in the investor group.
Vinod and Neeru Khosla have been married since 1980. Vinod is listed as the co-founder of Sun Microsystems. He later created Khosla Ventures. Their son, Neal Khosla, is a Stanford graduate and the co-founder and CEO of Curai Health. Neeru Khosla graduated from San Jose State University with a master’s degree in molecular biology and is also an entrepreneur.
Jody Allen has chaired the Paul G. Allen Estate since her brother’s death in October 2018. In February, the estate put the Seahawks up for sale, following Allen’s wishes that his assets eventually be sold, and the proceeds sent to charity.

Earlier this week, Front Office Sports reported that a group led by Celtics alternate governors Wyc Grousbeck and Aditya Mittal was viewed as one of two finalists in the Seahawks bidding process.

AFFF is also laced with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, PFAS, commonly called “forever chemicals.” Studies link AFFF exposure to higher cancer rates among firefighters.
New Jersey is one of more than a dozen states that are working to collect, remove and destroy all of their AFFF. The state has so far collected more than 150,000 gallons from fire stations. All of it has been trucked to Revive Environmental, an Ohio company that specializes in PFAS destruction.
“We process it directly through our super critical water reactors,” said Rick Gillespie, CEO of Revive Environmental. “And what comes out of those reactors is clean water.”
But for decades, firefighters’ protective equipment also contained PFAS.
“It was in the gear and everything,” 76-year-old “Boots” Gancarz, Robert Gancarz’s father, said. “I had that every time you put it on and went to a call.”
Boots Gancarz fought fires all his adult life. In 2024, doctors told him he had colon cancer.
“I’m going to beat this,” Boots Gancarz said. “They ain’t shoveling dirt in my face yet.”

“We have to use a little bit more of this product, but it can still put the fire out,” Robert Gancarz said.
He has been blood-tested and his results showed PFAS levels higher than those of the average American.
Asked if he is worried about a possible cancer diagnosis for himself, Robert Gancarz responded, “It’s definitely a scary, scary thing to think about.”
