Nigerian authorities have charged six military officers over an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.

Nigerian authorities have charged six people, including a retired major-general and a serving police inspector, with “terrorism” and treason, over an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu, according to documents filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The six were all in custody on Tuesday while the seventh suspect, former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva, who is accused of helping to conceal the plot, is still at large.

The government had initially denied the existence of the alleged coup, before announcing in January that the military would try several officers for planning “to overthrow the government”.
They were part of a group of 16 military officers arrested in 2025 over what military authorities described as “acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations”, prompting rumours of a coup plot, which was initially denied by the government.
Shortly after denying the alleged coup plot, President Tinubu reshuffled the country’s top military generals.
In the 13-count charge sheet, authorities said suspects “conspired with one another to wage war against the state to overthrow the president of the Federal Republic”.
The charges named retired Major-General Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, retired Captain Erasmus Ochegobia Victor, Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Kashim Goni and Abdulkadir Sani.
The six were also accused of conspiring “with one another to commit an act of terrorism” and of “indirectly” but “knowingly” rendering “support” to Colonel Mohammed Alhassan Ma’aji and others “to commit an act of terrorism”.
Ma’aji has been named as the “mastermind” of the coup in previous Nigerian media reports.
Africa’s most populous nation experienced five coups in the 20th century but has not seen one since it became a formal democracy in 1999.
This alleged coup plot comes after a surge in coups and attempted coups in West and Central Africa in recent years, the latest in Benin and Guinea-Bissau late last year.
These military takeovers, experts say, follow a pattern marked by disputed elections, constitutional upheaval, security crises, and youth discontent.
Danhausen made his debut at Elimination Chamber in February when he appeared out of a mysterious box that was set up on the stage.
The pro wrestling star’s entrance came with a puzzled fan base and questions about who this guy was and how he was going to fit on a crowded roster filled with talented wrestlers all vying for championships and time on the major premium live events, “Monday Night Raw” and “Friday Night SmackDown.”

Danhausen came out with his faced painted and several women, known at the time as the Danhausenettes. It was his first appearance since he left All Elite Wrestling, where he had the same gimmick – putting a “curse” and emerging as more of a comedy act than anything.
In the weeks leading up to WrestleMania, Danhausen caught on with the fans. He “cursed” The Miz, Kit Wilson, Dominik Mysterio, the New York Mets and Stephen A. Smith in between his debut and WrestleMania 42. In Las Vegas, his T-shirts were everywhere and dozens of fans painted their faces to match the “very nice, very evil” superstar.
“I’ve only been here for about two months, and look at the impact Danhausen’s made,” he told Fox News Digital before WrestleMania Night 1. “He’s got a merchandise stand at WrestleMania. He’s going to be at WrestleMania. And his face is on everything. Gotta get it on the side of the truck still. But what was your question? I was talking about how great I am.”

Danhausen also provided an update on the Danhausenettes, who haven’t been seen since they were dancing and performing on the stage at Elimination Chamber.
“Well, we gave them a vacation,” he said. “A great reception. We gave them their human monies to go off and do whatever they want for the time being. Perhaps we’ll see them again. Perhaps we won’t. I don’t know. It’ll be a surprise.”
He came out to a huge reaction in a segment that involved John Cena, The Miz and Wilson. He was accompanied by pro wrestlers from Micro Wrestling. They also got involved as Danhausen struck The Miz in the groin. The Micro Wrestling performers carried The Miz out of the ring.

Midtjylland midfielder Alamara Djabi is in a stable condition having been seriously injured in a stabbing in Denmark.
Local police confirmed the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in Herning – the central Danish town where Midtjylland are based.
The 19-year-old from Guinea-Bissau was signed from Benfica’s academy in 2023 and has made two senior appearances for Midtjylland.
The club said in a statement that Djabi had been “in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery”.
“Since then, he has undergone another operation, and thanks to the professional efforts of the emergency responders and later the hospital staff, his condition is now stable,” Midtjylland added.
“He has awakened from an induced coma and is doing well under the circumstances.”
Djabi made seven appearances on loan with Portuguese second division side CD Mafra last season and played once this term for Midtjylland in Europa League qualifying.
The four-time Danish Superliga champions, who last won the title in 2024, are currently second – two points behind AGF.
More than 100,000 fans gathered in the streets of San Sebastian, Spain, on Monday to celebrate Real Sociedad‘s Copa del Rey win over the weekend — a first major trophy for the Basque team since 2021.
Real Sociedad defeated Atlético Madrid on penalties Saturday to secure the title, marking a historic milestone for American coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, who earned his first trophy just four months after taking over the squad. In doing so, he became the first U.S.-born manager to win a major European tournament.
Matarazzo received one of the loudest ovations of the day. He further endeared himself to the local supporters by attempting a speech in Euskera, the Basque regional language.
“We are champions! I will try to do this in Basque, so I apologize for any mistakes I may make,” Matarazzo said from the balcony of San Sebastian’s town hall. “What a wonderful start on this path we are taking together. I feel that this is just the beginning! With your help, these players can achieve many great things.”
The “Blue and White” crowd chanted “Rino, Rino, Rino Matarazzo,” to which the New Jersey native responded that no one lifted the trophy as “high as I have,” due to his 6’6″ height and the proudness he feels.
Another moment of peak euphoria occurred when club captain Mikel Oyarzabal raised the trophy. The Spain striker thanked the fans for their unwavering support, while being frequently interrupted by the crowd chanting “Ballon d’Or” in his honor.
“Firstly, thank you very much for being here with us. It’s great to see how happy you look,” Oyarzabal said. “Here we are again, saying we are the champions of the Copa del Rey.”
Matarazzo — who previously coached Stuttgart and Hoffenheim in Germany — took charge of Real Sociedad as they struggled last December and has lifted them to seventh in LaLiga, and now a major trophy.

We set this up using the Amazon Alexa app on a phone, and these are the exact steps we followed. The menus may look slightly different depending on your device.
Open the Alexa app on your phone
Tap “More” (it usually has three horizontal lines)
Tap “Alexa+ Store”
Use the search bar and type in Uber or Grubhub.
Tap the service you want
When it appears, tap to open it.
Tap “Connect” or “Enable” (You may see a page from “pitangui.amazon.com” during setup. That’s part of Amazon’s system and is safe if you open it from the Alexa app. )
Next, sign in to your account on your phone
Tap “Grant access”
Tap “Continue”
Tap “Close” to return to the app
After we linked our Grubhub account, we got a confirmation email saying everything was successfully connected. Once that’s all done, it becomes a hands-free experience.
To actually place an order, go to your Echo device and say, “Alexa, I want to order food,” then follow the prompts on the screen. Note: the feature is still rolling out and works best on newer Echo Show devices.

Americans are fascinated with getting the most out of Social Security, but many retirees are making a strategic mistake that can cost them tens of thousands of dollars in lifetime benefits, according to new research from economists at Boston University and the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.
The analysis examines the issue of the optimal age to claim Social Security in order to maximize retirees’ lifetime discretionary income, or money after taxes, living expenses and other essential costs. The Social Security Administration pays a worker’s full benefits at what it calls “full retirement age,” which ranges from 66 to 67 years old, depending on your birth year.
But people can also claim Social Security as soon as they turn 62, with the tradeoff of a roughly 30% reduction in their monthly checks. On the flip side, if workers wait to take Social Security until they turn 70, they get a 32% boost in their payments in exchange for holding off.
The reality, however, is that only 6% of U.S. workers wait until they turn 70 to claim Social Security, even though the vast majority would be better off to wait until then to trigger their retirement benefits, the researchers found.
$182,000 hit
There’s a very real price tag to claiming Social Security too early, as the typical worker is leaving about $182,000 in lifetime discretionary income on the table by claiming before they turn 70, the report noted — income that most Americans could sorely use given that many haven’t saved enough to carry them through old age.
Almost half of Americans claim Social Security before they hit full retirement age, and about one-quarter claim at age 62, according to data from the Social Security Administration.
Americans “have to change their thinking,” Laurence J. Kotlikoff, one of the study’s’ co-authors and an economics professor at Boston University, told CBS MoneyWatch. “They think they will die tomorrow, and that leads people to jinx themselves” by claiming too early.
Some people decide to claim Social Security early based on the average life expectancy for 65-year-olds, which is 83 years for men and 85 for women. But a better rule of thumb is to consider what Kotlikoff and his co-authors call “the worst outcome, financially speaking” — living until one’s maximum age of life, which could be in the upper 90s or even 100 years old.
The bottom line is that “we can’t count on dying on time,” said Kotlikoff, who writes about retirement at Maximize My Social Security and is a co-author of “Get What’s Yours,” a guide to the Social Security program. Instead, Americans should use financial strategies that can help them delay when they claim Social Security, which will boost their lifetime discretionary income, he said.
An extra eight years of benefits?
However, claiming at 62 could give a retiree an extra eight years of Social Security income that they could spend or save compared with waiting until age 70 — a tempting offer for someone who believes that money could be put to good use at that moment, such as toward living expenses or savings.
And people who worry they might not have as many years ahead of them as their compatriots might also be tempted to claim early to enjoy the benefit while they can.
Take an unmarried worker who is currently 60 years old and earns $80,000 a year. She’ll be able to claim her full benefit of $35,337 per year when she turns 66, according to the SmartAsset Social Security calculator. She could also claim when she turns 62, but with a reduced annual payout of $26,502. Nevertheless, she’ll enjoy eight additional years of those benefits, or an extra $212,016 over that time.
To be sure, she’ll get more money annually if she waits until she turns 70, with her Social Security payments bumping up to $46,947 per year. That represents 77% more income than if she claims her benefit at 62. But she’ll need to collect for more than 10 years at that higher payment level until she breaks even with what she would have received via an extra eight years of benefits from age 62 to 70.
People think that dying before they claim Social Security is a “terrible waste,” Kotlikoff said. But, he pointed out wryly, “If they die without Social Security, they won’t need money.” In his view, Americans should think like an economist and hold out for the maximum amount of benefits — although humans are notoriously not entirely logical when it comes to money decisions.
“Find a job”
Almost half of Americans over 55 lack any retirement savings, which means those workers will be more reliant on Social Security in their old age and may be tempted to claim early in order to have a steady stream of income as soon as they turn 62.
But Kotlikoff said people who remain physically active when they turn 62 should stay in the labor market rather than claim Social Security because by maximizing their benefits, they’ll be better off in the long run. The only people for whom it might make sense to claim early are people with a terminal disease or who are disabled, he added.
“Most people who are retiring early are able-bodied, so for those people it’s a fantastic labor market — they should go find a job and work,” he said. “The fact that we are retired longer than we work is nuts.”
Aside from working longer, there are a number of other strategies that workers can tap to help put off claiming Social Security until full retirement age or older. For one, people with retirement savings in a 401(k) or other accounts can draw down that money first, he noted. Cost-saving measures like moving in with relatives or taking a loan from a family member can also help tide you over until you reach 70.
Save more
Of course, a flip side to waiting to claim Social Security is a reduction in possible cash flow when someone is in their early to mid-60s, the paper noted. But the analysis found that the impact of delaying Social Security on household cash flow might not be as big as some fear.
“We found that [waiting to claim Social Security] reduces people’s spending at the median by 7% — the message being that people think they would have nothing to live on, but a lot of people have resources” beyond Social Security, Kotlikoff said.
Overall, Americans also need to put far more money away for their old age, he added. People think they’ll need savings of $1.25 million to ensure a comfortable life in their golden years, according to a recent Northwestern Mutual study. And yet the typical U.S. retirement account holds less than $87,000.
“People have been relying on Uncle Sam and their employer to take care of them, and we’ve seen the consequences,” Kotlikoff said. “It’s time for some tough love.”
