Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes has been called up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad to replace injured Arsenal midfielder Eberechi Eze.
Eze was not in Arsenal’s squad for Sunday’s 2-0 Carabao Cup final defeat by Manchester City because of a lower leg injury.
Barnes has been called up once before, in October 2020, when he won his only England cap in a friendly against Wales.
Scotland had tried to convince Barnes to switch his international allegiances and play for Steve Clarke’s team at this summer’s World Cup, with the 28-year-old eligible through his grandparents.
But Barnes turned down Scotland’s advances and he has now been called up to Tuchel’s squad for friendles against Uruguay and Japan in which a number of fringe players will be given chances to stake a claim for a regular place.
The Three Lions face Uruguay on 27 March and Japan on 31 March, with both games at Wembley Stadium.
Barnes has scored 14 goals in all competitions for Newcastle this season.
Legendary college basketball coach Bill Self said Sunday he was unsure about his future in the sport after the Kansas Jayhawks lost on a buzzer-beater to St. John’s.
Self said he wasn’t sure if he was going to return for another season. The 63-year-old has won two national championships in 23 seasons with the Jayhawks. But the last few years have been marred due to heart issues and other health conditions.

“I’ve gone through some stuff off the court, so I’ll get back and get with family and visit and see what’s going on,” Self said. “I love what I do. I need to be able to do it where I’m feeling good and healthy to do it fairly well. I’ll get back home, and it will all be discussed.”
Self missed a game at Colorado in January after taking a precautionary trip to the hospital. He also had two stents inserted in his heart in 2023, and two more last year.
When asked about his health on Sunday, Self said he was unsure if he was “completely” healthy.

“But I’m feeling — I feel as good as I’ve felt in a long time,” Self added. “I’m not making any statements whatsoever. But every year, I think … when you get to be doing it as long as I’ve done it, I look at it in five-year increments. Now I’m probably looking at it in more two-year increments, so to speak. So I try to focus on this season and try to get us to a second weekend, which we failed at. So I’ll go back now and break it down and see where that leads.”
The 2025-26 season ended with St. John’s guard Dylan Darling hitting a game-winning layup as time expired in the second-round matchup.
“My career ain’t going to be based on one game,” Self said when asked if it would be tough to end his career on such a crushing defeat. “I said I was going to get back and evaluate my health situation.”
Self took over the Jayhawks’ job before the 2003-04 season after three successful years at Illinois. He is 648-166 as Kansas’ head coach. Kansas made the NCAA Tournament in each season. He’s only had five seasons in which he had at least 10 losses.

Cancer survivors who eat more ultraprocessed foods may face a higher risk of death, according to new research.
The study, published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, found that higher consumption of heavily processed foods was linked to an increased risk of mortality over time among people who had survived the disease.
Ultraprocessed foods include items such as packaged snacks, sugary drinks and ready-made meals that have been altered with added sugars, fats, salts and preservatives, according to Cleveland Clinic.
Lead study author Marialaura Bonaccio, PhD, of the Research Unit of Epidemiology and Prevention at IRCCS Neuromed in Italy, said the findings go beyond nutrition alone.
“The main takeaway is that higher consumption of ultraprocessed foods is associated among cancer survivors with a significantly increased risk of both overall and cancer-specific mortality,” she told Fox News Digital.

“This relationship persists even after accounting for overall diet quality, suggesting that how food is processed, not just its nutrient content, plays an independent role in long-term health and disease,” she added.
The study followed more than 800 cancer survivors as part of a larger Italian health study that tracked participants for nearly 18 years.
Those who consumed the highest amounts of ultraprocessed foods had a 48% higher risk of death from any cause and a 57% higher risk of death from cancer compared to those who consumed the least, according to the findings.
The study also found that the overall pattern of eating mattered more than any single food.

“The magnitude of the increased risk was somewhat surprising,” Bonaccio told Fox News Digital. “The fact that the link remained strong even after adjusting for diet quality was particularly striking.”
“The most practical recommendation is to move toward minimally processed foods and home-cooked meals,” Bonaccio advised, noting that preparing meals from scratch with basic ingredients is a practical way to reduce reliance on ultraprocessed foods.

Bonaccio noted several limitations in the study.
The research was observational, meaning it showed a link between ultraprocessed foods and higher death risk, but could not prove that one directly caused the other.
The findings were also based on participants reporting what they ate, which may not always be accurate. In addition, people’s diets may have changed over time, and the study did not include detailed information about cancer stages, which could affect outcomes.
While there is no single “anti-cancer food,” experts generally recommend whole, minimally processed foods that are high in fiber and contain a variety of plant nutrients to reduce disease risk.

Father Ted actor Ben Keaton has died, aged 69, with his family leading tributes to the Irish star.
Keaton, who was born Ben Burke-Kennedy, was best known for playing Father Austin Purcell in the Channel 4 show, appearing in a 1996 episode.
He later appeared in Casualty, Doctors, children’s programme Hububb and Emmerdale, in which he played Rita’s Brannigan’s father, Jeff.
While Keaton’s cause of death has not been announced, his family described his death as “unexpected”.

Keaton’s family announced his death in the Irish Times on Friday (20 March), writing: “Ben will be forever greatly missed, loved and fondly remembered by his ex-wife Polly, son Waldo and daughter Daisy, brothers Des and Thom, sister Jeanette.”
His ex-wife, Polly Kelly Keaton, also paid tribute to the actor on Facebook, writing: “So incredibly sorry to say Ben Keaton died last night. It was very sudden and we are all in shock.
“We had separated several years ago, but we had half a lifetime together and infuriated and made each other cry with laughter in equal measure.
“He was a great dad to Waldo and Daisy and the finest Groucho and Cyrano I have ever seen.”
Fans took to social media to remember the actor, with one writing: “RIP Ben Keaton! Father Austin Purcell- the most boring priest in the world- was one of my favourite guest characters!”
Another said: “A sudden and heartbreaking loss. Ben Keaton will be remembered for the laughter and memories he gave to so many.”

Traded on social media, in emails and texts, they are a way of communicating for those who speak their coded language.
Often the clips show just a few seconds taken from one episode, and they don’t always make sense stripped of their context. How do they become memes with staying power? When a cast member’s “veneer falls and their vulnerability and humanity comes through,” said Sherri Williams, an associate professor in race, media and communication at American University. “That, along with the amplification of social media, creates a moment of truth and a meme.”
Those moments, which Tanya Horeck, a professor of film and feminist media studies at Anglia Ruskin University, defines as “little bundles of affect,” thrive on the internet. “People who haven’t even watched the show can understand those memes,” she said. “They can use them because of how legible they make certain emotions.”
These are some that, over the past 20 years, seem to have taken on lives of their own.
‘Real Housewives of New Jersey’
The table flip.
Circa: 2009
Origin story: An enraged Teresa Giudice upended a dinner table at LuNello, an upscale Italian restaurant turned reality TV landmark in Cedar Grove, N.J., during a heated group argument over a book written about Danielle Staub. The table flip, which sent red wine and food flying, put an end to the back and forth and brought this franchise’s first season to a dramatic end.
Proper usage: When you need to convey frustration. When you’re not being believed or heard. A top contender for the “Housewives” meme hall of fame, this particular scene, said Sherri Williams, the American University professor, “embodies the franchise.”
‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’
‘The lies. The lies. The lies.’
Circa: 2017
Origin story: The truth. The truth. The truth. Nobody hunts for it like a “Real Housewives” cast member. It is a running theme on every iteration of the shows. Kandi Burruss blurted out this phrase during the show’s Season 9 reunion after learning that a false rumor — that she wanted to sexually assault Porsha Williams — was spread by fellow cast member Phaedra Parks.
Proper usage: When you’ve had it with someone’s dishonesty. According to Sherri Williams (no relation), a variety of memes from the show are used in group chats to “punctuate our feelings and our experiences.”
‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’
The cat meme.
Circa: 2011
Origin story: This one takes some explaining, but first off, there was no cat in the “Housewives” episode. In Season 2, Taylor Armstrong struggles with forgiving Camille Grammer for airing details of abuse by her then-husband. Tensions later rise at a party where Grammer’s friend attempts to defend her behavior, leading Armstrong to shout in anger. A meme maker later swapped out Grammer’s friend for a white cat named Smudge. Why? Nobody knows.
Proper usage: When you need to comment on a bewildering conflict. This meme began circulating widely in 2019 and soon appeared on everything from clothing to paintings, Armstrong told BuzzFeed in 2022, adding that she was not bothered by its popularity, despite its dark origins. “I’ve come so far since then that I find the meme hysterical,” she said.
‘Real Housewives of Orange County’
‘That’s my opinion!’
Circa: 2014
Origin story: Who among us hasn’t told a friend that her boyfriend doesn’t seem to be a good guy — and gotten our head bitten off as a result? During the Season 9 reunion, a shouting match between Tamra Judge and Vicki Gunvalson over the quality of Gunvalson’s boyfriend at the time culminated in this response from Judge, delivered at earsplitting volume.
Proper usage: When you need to express an unwanted viewpoint to a friend, or maybe frenemy. Williams said such angry retorts often become a cast member’s defining moment because audiences see it as “real, raw, unfiltered emotion.”
‘Real Housewives of Potomac’

Circa: 2025
Origin story: Maya Angelou was one of the best-known writers in U.S. history and the author of “Still I Rise,” in which she wrote “You may trod me in the very dirt / But still, like dust, I’ll rise.” In a moment of considerable poetic license, Stacey Rusch recites this line at the show’s Season 9 reunion after defending herself from accusations that she may have faked her relationship with an ex-boyfriend.
Proper usage: When you’re feeling lyrical but confident amid life’s trials and tribulations. Rusch’s show of resilience quickly went viral on TikTok in 2025, with fans of the show parodying the moment.

Tanya Horeck, the Anglia Ruskin University professor, said that memes like this feed into a wider “culture of nastiness,” adding they are appealing because of their mean spirit. Slut-shaming, she said, was one of several problematic themes that run throughout the franchises.

Origin story: At a boozy lunch during the show’s ninth season, Dorinda Medley denies wanting to be a part of Tipsy Girl, a brand of wine started by Sonja Morgan. In an effort to silence Morgan, Medley yells “Clip! Clip! Clip!” clamping her thumb and four fingers together.
Proper usage: When you need to quiet a hater. “I have no idea where that comes from,” Medley wrote in a Bravo blog in 2017. “I just couldn’t figure out a away [sic] to stop Sonja from saying more lies!” Horeck said that the cast of “Real Housewives of New York” was excellent at knowing what to deliver for audiences. “Performance is absolutely key to the memes,” she said, adding that Medley’s animated behavior was made for TV. (Perhaps proving her point, Medley has since appeared on two consecutive seasons of “The Traitors.”)
