Bournemouth set to appoint Marco Rose as Andoni Iraola replacement – sources

Bournemouth are set to appoint Marco Rose as their new manager, sources have told ESPN.

Andoni Iraola announced on Monday he would leave Bournemouth at the end of the season, and sources told ESPN both Rose and Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna were on the Premier League club’s radar as potential replacements.

McKenna is under contract with Ipswich through to 2028, while Rose is available having left RB Leipzig last year. Both are much-admired by the Bournemouth hierarchy, but it’s Rose who appears to have emerged as their preferred candidate.

Sources have told ESPN the club is in discussions with Rose on personal terms. Rose will bring a wealth of experience having coached RB Salzburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund and Leipzig.

Iraola joined Bournemouth in June 2023 and has received plenty of praise for the job he has done there.

He said on Friday he is unsure on where his next move will be, but he hasn’t left Bournemouth with another job lined up. The 43-year-old has been linked with the soon-to-be vacant post at Athletic Club in Bilbao, while other Premier League teams would also be interested in his services.

“It hasn’t been a clear decision,” Iraola said on Friday. “I’ve been talking to the club about the situation and they were aware this could happen. There is no one main reason. The decision is taken is because I don’t want to risk losing the feeling of satisfaction I have of the three seasons here.

“We are human beings get tired and I decided it was the right moment to put an end to this journey which for me has been really special.”

Rose, 49, prefers a high-intensity pressing style and continuing with a system similar to Iraola’s appeals to Bournemouth.

He also brings experience of having a coached a club in the Champions League and the hope is the deal will be done in the coming days.
