Kacey Musgraves knows a “high horse” when she sees one.

Musgraves, 37, reflected on her past while also moving forward to change the narrative on her challenging relationship with another beloved country star – Miranda Lambert.

When asked about reported squabbles with the “Bluebird” singer, Musgraves told Variety their “beef” was “grass-fed, grade A.”

“I mean, it’s real and that’s why I love this song, because it’s not coming from some contrived place in a writing room,” she said about their surprise duet on her new “Middle of Nowhere” album.

“We’ve come together after years of really, honestly, not being friends.”

The “Golden Hour” musician was inspired to reach out after finding song inspiration on social media.

“I had this idea one day when I saw her on Instagram, riding one of her horses, and I thought, ‘Well, I guess we have two things in common: horses and divorces,'” Musgraves said.

“And I was like, ‘Wait, that’s a song.’ Then I took it a step further: ‘What if I write it with her? What if it’s a duet? F— it, I’m gonna reach out.’”

She added, “I hadn’t spoken to her in years and was like, ‘Hey, I have this idea. If anybody would get it, it would be you. We’ve had our s— over the years, but this would be really funny.’ And she was like, ‘I’m down.’

“I was like, ‘Look, I’m not trying to be your friend, but we should write this song at least.’ So it was a late addition, the last song added to the album, which wrapped up in January.”

Musgraves previously discussed their rumored feud in an interview with NPR where she recalled writing “Mama’s Broken Heart,” a song Lambert recorded on her 2013 album, “Four the Record.”

“It was gonna be my first single and I loved the song so much. I had been a staff writer for years at that point, writing for other people and had finally felt like I was collecting songs that felt like me that I didn’t wanna pitch to anyone else,” she said.

The “Deeper Well” singer claimed the song was pitched to Lambert without her “consent or knowledge,” and it soon became a “tricky situation.”

Scrap ‘unaffordable’ state pension triple lock, urges Tony Blair

Scrap ‘unaffordable’ state pension triple lock, urges Tony Blair

The triple lock should be scrapped, Sir Tony Blair’s think tank has said in a proposal for the biggest overhaul of the state pension since it was introduced in 1948.

The former PM’s Tony Blair Institute has issued a new report calling for the state pension to be replaced with a “Lifespan Fund” that it claims is “built for longer and more fluid lives”.

It argues the state pension is “outdated, increasingly unaffordable, and too rigid for the way people live and work” because it concentrates state-supported income support at retirement.

The triple lock is a government guarantee to increase the state pension each April by the highest of three metrics – average wage rises, inflation, or 2.5 per cent.

This is intended to protect pensioners’ incomes over time and is highly valuable to recipients. Critics say it is no longer affordable, but politicians have been loath to commit to changing it, given its popularity with older voters.

The full state pension is worth £241.30 a week, or £12,548 a year.

Defenders of the state pension note that the money paid out is spent back into the economy, which supports growth, but the TBI claims “reform is now unavoidable” since the number of pensioners will rise from 12.6m now to 19m by 2070.

The cost to the state could rise from 5 per cent of GDP now to 7.8 per cent by then – an extra £85 billion a year.

In a recent report from Almond Financial, Britain had the 13th most generous state pension in Europe. Luxembourg was top, followed by Norway, Spain and Malta.

Tom Smith, director of economic policy at the Tony Blair Institute said: “Britain’s state pension system was built for a different era. We can’t keep pouring money into a system that is increasingly unaffordable. Pension spending must be contained, and that means the triple lock cannot continue after the next Election.

“Ending it will require political leadership from all parties – but that should only be the first step. Real reform must also build a better system: one that is fairer, more flexible, and designed for how people live today.”

Nigel Farage of Reform UK has recently pledged to keep the pension triple lock, but cut other welfare payments to pay for it.

Labour MP Graeme Downie said the triple lock should be reformed to fund an increase in defence spending.

He wrote in The House magazine that the government should be brave enough to ask older people who “benefited financially from peace” to make a greater contribution to future national security.

“If there is to be a true whole of society approach to defence, and younger people could be expected to die, what are older people willing to sacrifice?” he wrote.

The report calls for the recently re-established Pensions Commission to foster cross-party agreement before the next election, paving the way for the triple lock to be replaced from 2030 with a smoothed link to earnings.

Under the proposed Lifespan Fund savers would build up entitlement through contribution across their lives – including through work, caring, study and other recognised activity.

They could bring forward some of those payments, for example if unemployed or retraining.

People could choose when to convert their Lifespan Fund into a guaranteed pension for life, with the annual amount adjusted on an actuarially fair basis to reflect age and health.

Tom Smith added: “TBI’s proposed Lifespan Fund offers that better alternative. It replaces the one-size-fits-all state pension with a personalised system that people build up through active contribution across their lives. It gives people real freedom to use support earlier in life – to retrain, care for relatives or manage periods out of work – and to top it back up before retiring on their own terms. It is the upgrade Britain needs.”

AJ Bell director of public policy, Tom Selby, said: “A radical plan to overhaul the state pension and replace it with a more flexible system that allows people to take a lower income but start claiming earlier might seem sensible.”

“But the proposals are complex and the prospect of the government calculating an ‘actuarially fair’ retirement income for each individual based on key details like their personal health records feels somewhat dystopian, and would clearly be vulnerable to people gaming the system by over-stating ill-health and habits like drinking and smoking.”

Joey Chestnut reveals foods he won’t eat in competition as he tours minor league stadiums for local delicacies

Joey Chestnut will eat almost anything.

The 17-time Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest champion is the greatest competitive eater of all time, once even chowing down cow brain tacos.

But there are two foods that are off limits.

“The only things that would stop me is if I’m, like, really worried about getting sick,” said Chestnut who apparently has no concerns about cow brain.

“Like raw oysters. I’d have to be really confident that these oysters are coming from somewhere where I’m not going to get sick.”

There are some foods that seem tasty at first, but they do provide difficulties for Chestnut. Popcorn causes chapped lips and bloating due to swallowing air, and Twinkies provide a “sugar headache.”

“But if I do my prep right going in, I feel pretty good,” he said confidently.

There is one more “oyster” though, made from an animal’s — let’s say body part — that is not on Chestnut’s menu.

“There was a casino that wanted to do Rocky Mountain oysters. And their track record wasn’t good on preparing them,” Chestnut recalled.

“They’re bull testicles. I kind of rejected that one.”

This summer, though, tasty delights are on the table with Chestnut partnering with Diamond Baseball Holdings (DBH) to visit minor league ballparks nationwide this season to take on some of the signature dishes that define the club’s communities.

Chestnut traveled to Wichita last month to tackle chili buns, a Midwestern dish that is a combination of chili and cinnamon buns. In Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he’ll go with pierogies. And in upstate New York, he’ll try his hand at cider donuts. Cheeseburger dogs are also on deck in Reading, Pennsylvania.

“I’m super pumped. Minor league ballparks are always fun, just great atmospheres. I think minor league ballparks are responsible for major league ballparks stepping up their food game, so I’m going to be doing some good eating,” Chestnut said.

Nottingham Forest: Penalty king Chris Wood can first Forest to glory

Nottingham Forest: Penalty king Chris Wood can first Forest to glory

Wood’s spot-kick, smashed high beyond Emi Martinez, was his 200th career goal and gives Forest something to defend at Villa Park next week.

The New Zealand international only returned this month, having been sidelined since October with his knee issue.

He missed the entirety of Sean Dyche’s reign, having surgery in December, but started the quarter-final first-leg draw in Porto three weeks ago.

Lucas Digne’s baffling decision to raise his arms and handle the ball as Omari Hutchinson tried to keep it in play gave Wood his chance with 19 minutes left.

There was an audible cheer when Wood stepped up to take the penalty – Morgan Gibbs-White having missed from the spot against Strum Graz and Braga this season.

There was a sense of expectation, which is only fair as Wood has not missed a penalty in 10 years – since failing to score against Hull for Leeds in April 2016.

He has now scored 28 successive spot-kicks.

“That’s what I have to do and that’s what I try to do. It’s the job, the responsibility that my team gives me,” he told TNT.

“It’s cup competitions. They come down to small margins at times. Both teams played very well. But it’s small moments that can potentially change games. Thankfully it went in our favour tonight and hopefully again next week.

“It’s one leg of the tie. It’s nice to have the advantage but going to Villa Park will be a tough game. They’re good at their place. But we’ve done the job here at home and now hopefully we’ll build into next week.”

He scored in last Friday’s 5-0 Premier League win at Sunderland – his first goal since a penalty against Midtjylland in October – and has six goals in 19 games for club and country this season.

Wood, 34, has explained he will have to manage his knee injury for the rest of his life – but after watching so much of Forest’s battle against the Premier League drop from the sidelines, he is just glad to be back in action and scoring.

“That’s all I wanted to do,” he said. “I wanted to get back fit and firing to help my team as best as I can at the end of the season. I knew we had a lot to play for when I was fighting to get fit and it’s showing. It’s some big competitions to be a part of.

“We’re in the crunch end of the season. We need to perform on both parts and we’ll be looking to do that for sure.”

J. Craig Venter, who won the race to sequence the human genome, dies at 79

J. Craig Venter, who won the race to sequence the human genome, dies at 79

J. Craig Venter, who mapped the first draft of the human genome and helped scientists understand how genes shape our lives, died Wednesday. He was 79.

Venter’s death was announced by the J. Craig Venter Institute, a genomics research group with locations in La Jolla, California, and Rockville, Maryland. The institute said he died in San Diego after being hospitalized for side effects from a recent cancer treatment.

In the 1990s Venter bet that he could use a different sequencing technique to speed up the process of decoding the human genome and beat an enormous government effort called the Human Genome Project. And in 2000, Venter’s private company Celera Genomics announced, along with Human Genome Project leaders, that they had decoded the 3.1 billion sub-units of DNA, the chemical “letters″ that make up the recipe of human life. Three years later, in April 2003, the project declared the genome complete.

“Some have said to me that sequencing the human genome will diminish humanity by taking the mystery out of life,” Venter said at a White House event in 2000 about the breakthrough. “Nothing could be further from the truth.”

And his work did reveal even greater mysteries — even as it helped scientists understand the genetic causes for rare diseases and more common conditions such as heart disease and cancer, as well as what mutations or shifts may put people at higher risk of disease.

Venter, who served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam, said the experience taught him how fragile life could be and made him curious about how the trillions of cells in the human body conspire to create and maintain life.

He also worked at the National Institutes of Health, where he helped develop a technique to quickly identify large swathes of human genes.

Later, he was the first to publish his own sequenced genome with the hope that researchers could scan it to learn what was inherited from each parent and where vulnerabilities to disease might lie, opening doors to one day tailor future treatments to a person’s genes. He and his team also made a breakthrough in synthetic biology by creating a bacterial cell with lab-synthesized DNA.

“Ozempic breath” is boosting Hershey’s sales of mints and gum

“Ozempic breath” is boosting Hershey’s sales of mints and gum

Candy giant Hershey is getting a sales boost from an unexpected consumer segment: users of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs.

Hershey CEO Kirk Tanner said in the company’s first-quarter earnings call on Thursday that while appetite suppressants are leading customers to consume smaller portions of popular snacks, the drugs are also boosting demand for breath fresheners.

The company has “seen strong demand for gum and mint products as the category benefits from functional snacking tailwinds, including GLP-1 adoption,” Tanner said. He noted that sales for the company’s Ice Breakers mint and gum brand increased 8% over the quarter.

One possible explanation: Along with slimming waistlines, drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy sometimes produce the side effect of bad breath, according to medical professionals.

“Ozempic breath refers to a fishy smell in burps or bad breath,” Dr. Neha Lalani told medical information provider Healthline.

GLP-1 makers don’t include bad breath, also known as halitosis, as a side effect of the drugs. Doctors also caution that it’s not a clinical diagnosis and that the drugs’ effects on patients’ oral hygiene are being studied.

In one clinical trial, the maker of Ozempic and Wegovy, Novo Nordisk, found that roughly 9% of people taking GLP-1 medications reported “eructation,” better known as burping. More than 40% reported nausea, and almost 25% reported vomiting as a side effect of the drugs.

Apple beats out earnings estimates with continued iPhone momentum

Apple beats out earnings estimates with continued iPhone momentum

Apple posted strong results for its quarterly earnings on Thursday, but investors’ attention is also focused on the upcoming CEO change and the tech firm’s artificial intelligence strategy.

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced earlier this month he will be stepping down from the role, with Apple’s head of hardware engineering, John Ternus, assuming the role later this year.

The January-March results announced Thursday reflect the continued momentum of iPhone sales. Cook said in a statement that it was the company’s best March quarter ever, with “double-digit growth across every geographic segment.”

The company earned $29.58 billion, or $2.01 per share, in the January-March period, up about 22% from the same period a year earlier.

Revenue rose about 17% to $111.18 billion from $95.36 billion a year earlier. iPhone sales made up the bulk of revenue, bringing in $56.99 billion.

The Cupertino, California company beat analyst expectations this quarter. Analysts surveyed by FactSet Research forecast earnings of $1.95 per share on revenue of $109.46 billion.

In the previous quarter that ended in December, the company said it reached record-high iPhone sales, even though it still hasn’t delivered on its long-promised revamp of Siri assistance with AI. iPhone achieved a March quarter revenue record, fueled by “such extraordinary demand” for the iPhone 17 lineup, Cook said in a statement.

This March, Apple introduced the new iPhone 17e and the MacBook Neo, an entry-level laptop, products that represent the company’s most aggressive attempt at moving into the affordable market.

Cook has helmed Apple for 15 years, inheriting the CEO role from the late Steve Jobs. During his tenure at the head of the company, the company’s market value soared by more than $3.6 trillion during an iPhone-fueled era of prosperity.

Ternus will start as CEO on Sept. 1, and Cook will remain involved with the Cupertino, California company as executive chairman.

Ternus briefly joined a call with analysts after the results were posted Thursday, with Cook introducing him and emphasizing the confidence he has in his successor. Cook said he and Ternus will be working together closely over the next few months to make the transition as smooth as possible.

“This is the most exciting time in my 25 year career at Apple to be building products and services,” Ternus said. “There are so many opportunities before us, and I couldn’t be more optimistic about what’s to come.”

Judge sentences Ugandan man to death following speedy trial for killing 4 children

Judge sentences Ugandan man to death following speedy trial for killing 4 children

WAKISO, Uganda — A judge on Thursday sentenced a Ugandan man to death after rejecting his insanity plea in the killings of four children in a nursery school earlier this month.

A crowd watching proceedings in a tent erupted in cheers after the judge ruled that Christopher Okello should “suffer death” for the April 2 killings that devastated the East African nation.

The suspect “failed to adduce any evidence to support this claim that he was not mentally okay” when he committed the crimes, the judge said.

The 38-year-old man was accused of killing the children in a machete attack inside a nursery school in a suburb of the Ugandan capital of Kampala.

Witnesses said the attacker targeted the nursery school, known as Gaba Early Childhood Development Program, by disguising himself as a parent. He is said to have briefly talked to administrators there before locking the gate and attacking the children.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni ordered the courts to fast-track the criminal trial in a justice mechanism known as “mobile courts,” open-air rather than courtroom sessions that allowed hundreds of bereaved locals and others to witness the trial as it unfolded.

Still, there were concerns about the defendant’s mental health. He appeared nervous and, at times, laughed without provocation. The Uganda Law Society described the trial as “a judicial lynching rally.”

The judiciary defended the decision to conduct a quick and very public trial, saying it highlighted its “commitment to taking justice closer to the people through innovative approaches.”

The death penalty is rarely carried out in this East African country. Many people condemned to death have spent years behind bars.

Oreo has a new summertime flavor coming to shelves

A new flavor of Oreo cookie is set to hit shelves in a matter of days.

Starting May 4, Oreo Firecracker Pop will become available in stores nationwide, the cookie company announced Thursday.

Inspired by the popular red, white, and blue-colored ice pop, the new cookies will feature blue raspberry, lemon, and cherry flavored creme. Instead of the traditional chocolate, the trio of cremes will be nestled between two golden cookies.

The new flavor will only be available for a limited time while supplies last.

“Get ready for a blast of summertime nostalgia and a burst of flavor!” Oreo said in a press release, adding that the new sweet was “inspired by the delicious frozen treat we all know and love.”

Oreo’s new flavor is inspired by the red, white, and blue firecracker ice pop (Oreo)

The Firecracker Pop-flavored Oreos are the latest limited-edition offering in the cookie brand’s growing line of treats.

Oreo, owned by Mondelēz International, recently launched an online-only Dill Pickle-flavored cookie, available on its website for $9.99. The special six packs were crafted in a small batch.

Fans who were able to snag a pack left mixed reviews on the Oreo website. One customer suggested Oreo “should definitely consider dropping these full time,” while another called it “the craziest flavor oreo has ever done.”

But others weren’t as convinced, as someone wrote, “Eww not good should definitely stick to original n drop this.”

Dill pickle certainly wasn’t Oreo’s first savory cookie flavor. Last year, a special collection of cookies was released in honor of Thanksgiving.

The “Oreo Thanksgiving Dinner Cookie Tin” included two flavors based on beloved seasonal desserts, Pumpkin Pie and Caramel Apple Pie, as well as side dish flavors Cranberry Sauce, Sweet Potato, and Creamed Corn.

It also included a flavor inspired by Thanksgiving Day’s signature meal: Turkey and Stuffing.

Oreo also teamed up with Reese’s, owned by the Hershey Company, on two snacks that combine their beloved products.

The cookie company released it’s own branded product which is actually a revival of a 2014 cookie variant using Reese’s peanut butter. The new version varied slightly by including Oreo cookie crumbs in the peanut butter filling. The cookies became available in September 2025 as a limited run but were made permanent at the start of 2026.

The Reese’s Oreo Cup, replaced the usual chocolate exterior of a Reese’s cup with Oreo’s milk chocolate and white creme. The interior was Reese’s peanut butter mixed with Oreo cookie crumbs. That was made a permanent addition to the Reese’s lineup, sold in standard, king, and miniature sizes.

Britain warns another terror attack is ‘highly likely’ within 6 months after London stabbing

Britain warns another terror attack is ‘highly likely’ within 6 months after London stabbing

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Britain raised its national terror threat level to “severe” on Thursday in the wake of the antisemitic stabbing attack in Golders Green, warning that another terrorist attack is now considered “highly likely” in the next six months.

The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) increased the U.K. National Threat Level from “substantial” to “severe” a day after two people were stabbed in north London in what police have formally declared a terrorist incident.

Officials said the decision was not based solely on the Golders Green attack, but reflects a broader rise in extreme right-wing terrorism in Britain.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood called Wednesday’s violence an “abhorrent, antisemitic attack” and said the elevated threat level would be a source of concern for many, “particularly amongst our Jewish community, who have suffered so much.”

Police said officers were called to Highfield Avenue in the Barnet borough at about 11:16 a.m. Wednesday following reports of multiple stabbings.

Two men, ages 76 and 34, were treated at the scene for stab wounds before being taken to a hospital, where they remain and are “being looked after,” Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor said.

On Thursday, police identified the suspect as 45-year-old Essa Suleiman. Suleiman is a British national born in Somalia who had a “history of serious violence and mental health issues”, police say.

The Home Office said the threat-level increase comes against a backdrop of rising terrorism in the U.K.

On Thursday, protesters gathered on Downing Street to voice concerns that not enough has been done to protect the Jewish community.

In response to the attack and a recent rise of antisemitic arson attacks in London, the government announced an additional £25 million in funding to protect Jewish communities, bringing total support this year to £58 million. Officials said the money will be used to boost police patrols and protective security at synagogues, schools and community centers.

RECORD ANTISEMITIC INCIDENTS IN CANADA FUEL CRITICISM OF CARNEY GOVERNMENT RESPONSE

The funding will also support an expansion of Project Servator, which deploys specialist and plainclothes officers trained to spot suspicious behavior and identify people preparing to commit serious crimes.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said the British government cannot credibly claim to be combating antisemitism unless it also confronts what he described as “explicit incitement against the Jewish state.”

“Hate slogans and anti-Semitic marches in the streets of London aren’t ‘free speech’. They are incitement,” he wrote on X. “They bring terror directed against Jews.
They must be banned. The phrase ‘Globalise the Intifada’, means killing Jews everywhere. It must be banned.”

“This is what the British government must immediately do to fight antisemitism. Otherwise, it’s just more empty words.”

Taylor said the attack has now been formally classified as terrorism and that counterterrorism officers are working with security services to establish the full circumstances and develop a complete intelligence picture.

“Whilst I must stress this investigation is at an early stage, we are working quickly to understand exactly what happened,” Taylor said.
