Billy Porter says he isn’t welcome at the Met Gala

Billy Porter has said he hasn’t been invited back to the Met Gala since his show-stopping appearance in 2019.

The 56-year-old Pose actor made his debut at the star-studded VIP event in a bejewelled gold ensemble for that year’s theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” making his entrance sprawled across a plinth carried by six shirtless men.

In a new interview with SiriusXM’s Beverly Smith, Porter was asked if he would attend this year’s event on May 4, to which he responded: “No, I’m not going. I have not been invited… I haven’t been invited back since 2019.”

Porter said he doesn’t go “where I’m not welcome” and spoke about how he felt being omitted from last year’s event, which celebrated Black dandyism through the theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

“I’m just going to throw that out there,” he said. “I’m good. It’s all good. But the reality is when people ask me, you need to know I was not invited and I’m good, and I don’t go to places where I’m not welcome.”

The Tony-winning actor said he’s made peace with the situation since he “doesn’t require validation from the outside.”

He added: “So I’m going to sit and live in that because it helps keep me sane, too.”

Celebrities are invited to the Met Gala primarily through the approval of Vogue’s global editorial director and chair of the benefit, Anna Wintour, who has control of the guest list and waitlist.

The Independent has contacted the Met and Wintour for comment.

Invitations are often based on cultural relevance, and some celebrities are invited as guests of a fashion brand that has paid thousands of dollars for a table at the benefit.

Porter’s 2019 Met Gala look paid homage to the Egyptian art on display at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and also referenced an outfit worn by Diana Ross during a montage in the 1975 film Mahogany. The actor wore a gold headdress, bedazzled leotard and a pair of sweeping golden wings.

The dress code for the 4 May event is “Fashion is Art,” which celebrates the Costume Institute’s “Costume Art” exhibit, which explores the “centrality of the dressed body.” Guests are encouraged to think about how they can use their bodies as a blank canvas.

This year’s honorary hosts are Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams, while members of the Gala Host Committee — co-chaired by Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz — include singer Sabrina Carpenter, musician Doja Cat, ballerina Misty Copeland, Girls creator Lena Dunham, singer Sam Smith and One Battle After Another actor Teyana Taylor, among others.

Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, are lead sponsors for the event. The role gives the couple influence over everything from invites to the overall presentation of the event.

Their involvement has led to a boycott campaign from the political activist group Everyone Hates Elon, which has distributed flyers across New York City that read “Boycott the Bezos Met Gala” in the lead-up to the event.

US Justice Department drops criminal probe of Fed chair Jerome Powell

US Justice Department drops criminal probe of Fed chair Jerome Powell

The announcement on Friday is expected to clear the path for the confirmation of his successor, Kevin Warsh.

The United States Department of Justice has ended its probe into US Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell, clearing a major roadblock to the confirmation of his successor, Kevin Warsh.

US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeannine Pirro said on X on Friday that her office was ending its probe into the Fed’s extensive building renovations because the Fed’s inspector general would scrutinise them instead.

Pirro, a Trump ally and the top federal prosecutor in Washington, DC, said she had instead asked the Fed’s internal watchdog, the Office of Inspector General, to examine cost overruns in renovations of the central bank’s Washington headquarters.

“The IG has the authority to hold the Federal Reserve accountable to American taxpayers,” Pirro said in a social media post. “I expect a comprehensive report in short order and am confident the outcome will assist in resolving, once and for all, the questions that led this office to issue subpoenas.”

The move could lead to a swift confirmation vote by the Senate for Warsh, a former top Fed official whom US President Donald Trump, a Republican, nominated in January to replace Powell. Powell’s term as chair ends May 15.

Senator Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, had said he would oppose Warsh until the investigation was resolved, effectively blocking his confirmation.

The leadership transition at the world’s leading central bank could now proceed quickly.

Republicans praised Warsh during a Tuesday hearing even as Democrats questioned his independence from Trump, the lack of transparency around some of his financial holdings, and what they said was his flip-flopping on interest rates. Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the committee, questioned if Warsh will be a “sock puppet“.

Still, Trump’s previous appointment to the Fed’s board of governors, Stephen Miran, was approved by the full Senate just 13 days after his nomination.

No evidence

The investigation was among several undertaken by the Department of Justice into Trump’s perceived adversaries. For months, it had failed to gain traction as prosecutors struggled to articulate a basis to suspect criminal conduct.

A prosecutor handling the case conceded at a closed-door court hearing in March that the government had not yet found any evidence of a crime, and a judge subsequently quashed subpoenas issued to the Federal Reserve.

The judge, James Boasberg, said prosecutors had produced “essentially zero evidence” to suspect Powell of a crime. Boasberg branded prosecutors’ justification for the subpoenas as “thin and unsubstantiated”.

More recently, prosecutors made an unannounced visit to a construction site at the Fed’s headquarters but were turned away, drawing a rebuke from a defence lawyer in the case who called the manoeuvre “not appropriate”.

Warsh said during the Senate hearing on Tuesday that he never promised the White House that he would cut interest rates, even as the president renewed his calls for the central bank to do so.

“The president never once asked me to commit to any particular interest rate decision, period,” Warsh said during the hearing. “Nor would I ever agree to do so if he had … I will be an independent actor if confirmed as chair of the Federal Reserve.”

Warsh’s comments came just hours after Trump, in an interview on CNBC, was asked if he would be disappointed if Warsh did not immediately cut rates and responded, “I would.”

The decision to abandon the investigation represents a rare pullback for a Department of Justice that over the last year has moved aggressively, albeit unsuccessfully, to prosecute public figures the president does not like.

Robert Hur, an lawyer for the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, did not immediately respond on Friday to an email seeking comment.

What can home buyers do to speed up their property chain and complete a deal?

What can home buyers do to speed up their property chain and complete a deal?

As many home buyers will recall, saving for a deposit and finding the right property are far from the only stresses experienced when moving.

The next stage of the purchasing process can frequently involve a “chain”, and that can make consumers feel unease and uncertainty.

Customers can find themselves within a group of buyers and sellers that are linked together, but who may have varied expectations about completion times.

A survey done on behalf of lender Barclays earlier this year found consumers can face extra costs of £2,127 on average if they experience problems with, or a breakdown of, their housing chain. That comes from potential wasted spending on valuations and solicitors’ fees, for example.

Meanwhile, research from estate agents Hamptons estimates that 40 per cent of agreed home sales in Great Britain in 2025 that were part of a chain fell through. The firm adds that in March of this year, the number of fall-throughs was 4.7 per cent higher than in March 2025. While those failures to get deals over the line will not all be because of a chain, it is fair to assume a chunk may be impacted.

David Fell, lead analyst at Hamptons, says: “Every mover has their own desired time scales, but as soon as they form part of a chain, they are to some extent bound by everyone else’s,” while noting the average buyer in a chain takes 145 days to exchange contracts.

While there is no silver bullet that can make chain issues go away, there are ways, at least from your side, of trying to make things speed up.

Expert tips and must-do checks

Henry Griffin, a sales director at a branch of estate agency group Winkworth, has revealed his five tips for speeding up the chain in the home buying process:

  1. Instruct a recommended solicitor who is efficient, and you can speak to on the phone – this is vital.
  2. Book a survey and mortgage valuation within the first two to three days of having an offer agreed.
  3. Complete protocol forms immediately.
  4. Order searches immediately.
  5. Avoid chains over five properties long.

“We would also recommend setting up a ‘target date’ for exchange and completion – this provides a clear target for all and helps to keep the momentum up,” Griffin added.

Among those in agreement that speed is essential around mortgage valuations is Andrew Montlake. The chief executive of mortgage broker Coreco said: “People often think getting the offer accepted is the big hurdle, but really that is just the starting gun.

“Buyers often underestimate how busy surveyors and valuers are, and a short delay by a few days at the start can create a knock-on effect through the whole chain, adding stress, uncertainty and unnecessary hold-ups later on.”

He finds property transactions go through more smoothly when buyers have a good estate agent, broker and solicitor all working together.

What must buyers be aware of?

Consumers will also be keen to make sure they can secure the best rates. As seen in recent weeks, the conflict in Iran has impacted UK mortgage rates.

Fell says mortgage offers typically last for six months, “so during periods when mortgage rates are rising, there is increasing pressure to exchange contracts before anyone’s mortgage offer expires. Expiring offers which have to be renewed at higher rates can potentially open the door to renegotiations”.

Addressing property chain length, Jessica Hayward, founder of Boughtons Estate Agents, cautions: “The longer the chain, the greater the risk of a sale falling through, due to the increased number of parties and variables involved. It only takes one issue, such as an adverse survey result, a failed mortgage application, a change of mind, loss of employment, or a better opportunity arising, for the entire chain to collapse.”

Ian Parsons, senior associate director at estate agency Strutt & Parker’s Norwich branch, added: “In a more tricky market you’re more likely to find yourself in a longer chain than you would in a more buoyant market, as fewer cash buyers circulate and vendors can be less choosy.

“Buying a home is emotional, not just financial, and so it’s not as easy as just finding a home where there are fewer in the chain when you have your heart truly set on something.”

He continues: “If you find yourself in a long chain, give yourself grace – you can only go as fast as the slowest solicitor in the chain – hence why making sure you’ve instructed a reputable one is so important.

“Communication is key, a good agent will be talking up and down the chain to ensure things are progressing, and giving you regular updates.”

When investing, your capital is at risk and you may get back less than invested. Past performance doesn’t guarantee future results.

Rob and Michele Reiner’s son, Jake, speaks out about his parents’ deaths: “My world, as I knew it, had collapsed”

Rob and Michele Reiner’s son, Jake, speaks out about his parents’ deaths: “My world, as I knew it, had collapsed”

Jake Reiner, son of Rob and Michele Reiner, spoke out on Friday for the first time since his parents were brutally killed in their Los Angeles home in December, detailing the moment he learned what happened.

In a post to Substack, Jake said he was at the celebration of life for one of his best friends when his sister, Romy, called to tell him that their father was dead. Moments later, he wrote, he found out his mother was also killed.

“My world, as I knew it, had collapsed. I was in a trance,” Jake said. “The only thing I could focus on was that I needed to get to my childhood home. I needed to get to my sister. I needed to figure out what the hell just happened.”

He said he then took a rideshare service from the funeral in downtown to his family’s Brentwood home, which he called “unendurable.”

“Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time,” he wrote. “It’s too devastating to comprehend. I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare.”

Rob and Michele were found dead with stab wounds on Dec. 14. Shortly after, their son, Nick, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Nick was charged with two counts of murder in the first degree in a Los Angeles courtroom in February. He pleaded not guilty to both counts.

Rob Reiner, director of iconic films such as “Stand by Me” and “When Harry Met Sally…” was 78. Michele Singer Reiner, an accomplished photographer and film producer, was 70.

Jake then wrote about his grief and described his relationship with his parents. He only alluded to his brother, not mentioning his name, at the end of the more than 1,600-word post.

“We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable,” Jake wrote. “Sure, any loss of a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both of them at the same time and, on top of that, having your brother be at the center of it. It’s almost too impossible to process. I understand that people have questions about what happened. Some of those answers will come in time. But some parts of this belong only to our family, and keeping them private is the only way to protect what little remains of something that was taken from us.”

Heartbreaking Reality Of Children Without Parents: “Jiske upar koi nai hota.. usko”: Teenage orphan shares heartbreaking reality of children without parents – The Times of India

Maturity as a concept is often tied to age. Even as adults, many of us fail to understand what it truly means, let alone express it. However, this 16-year-old boy’s words will make you wonder whether maturity comes with age or circumstances.A short video clip of 16-year-old Chand is winning hearts on social media. The little boy’s way of describing “zimmedaari” (responsibility) has left people wondering and raised a deeper question: What does it take to become mature? In a clip shared on Instagram by Asad Ahmad (@asadwithpeople), Chand, the young boy, shares how he, along with 3 other people, unload nearly 8,000 bricks each day. Asad and his friend add, “Toh 1500 rupay kama lete ho is age mein aap” (so you earn 1500 rupees at this age), he responds with a simple nod and a bright smile.Chand lost his parents. Now an orphan, the boy lives with his brother and his wife. Chand also shared that he studies while working at the sites. He is in the 10th grade. It is in this context that his words resonate even more deeply. His circumstances have taught him a lot.In the clip Chand says, “Jiske upar koi nai hota usko jaldi samajh aati hai,” the boy believes those who have no one else to rely on often learn life’s lessons much earlier than others. He adds that children who grow up with the support of their parents often get the space to remain carefree for longer. And then comes the line that has stayed with so many: “Humein apne upar zimmedaari lekar chalni padti hai.” This would have been a much simpler sentence coming from a grown up, but when 16-year-old Chand, someone who carries the weight of not only bricks, but a lived experience, it becomes something much more complex.Chand doesn’t pity his struggles, instead, the boy quietly accepts reality. In Chand’s story, maturity doesn’t appear as something polished or learned over time, but as something shaped by necessity. His words don’t just win hearts, they hold up a mirror, reminding many that maturity isn’t always about growing older, but about growing through what life places on your shoulders.

‘NFL RedZone’ host Scott Hanson says he’s heard a fascinating bye week concept if the NFL expands to 18 games

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

With talks about the NFL expanding to a 18-game regular season growing, “NFL RedZone” host Scott Hanson said he heard an interesting concept about bye weeks.

Hanson, 54, said he heard a concept about a potential league-wide bye week if the NFL were to expand to 18 games.

“If you had an 18th game, do you add a second bye week? I’ve even heard a concept where maybe they add an extra game but add an extra bye week that is a complete league-wide bye week,” Hanson told Fox News Digital in a recent interview as he’s partnered with Lowe’s.

“Maybe there is an NFL weekend in the middle of October, early November, somewhere in the middle of the season, where nobody plays a game, let the players recoup, get their bodies right, everyone can get away from football, just a little bit, and then come and play the back half of the season.”

Hanson did preface that for an 18th game to be considered a possibility, a lot of big entities need to get on the same page.

“Well, look at, the biggest thing about that is the league and the Players Union and all the partners within the NFL ecosphere all need to get on the same page. And this is big business and a big change. Should it occur? So, they have a lot of talks to do through that,” Hanson said.

Hanson also noted how much later the Super Bowl would take place if the NFL implemented an 18-game regular season.

“But if you add that game, you extend the season, maybe by two weeks, if there’s the extra bye, meaning the Super Bowl is pushed back to maybe even beyond Valentine’s Day, a lot of moving parts there,” Hanson said.

Super Bowl LVI was the furthest into a calendar year that a Super Bowl has been played, when the Los Angeles Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 on February 13, 2022. Super Bowl LXI, next year’s big game, will push the date even further, as it is scheduled to be played on February, 14, 2027, also known as Valentine’s Day.
