Manchester United expect new stadium to open within 6 years
Manchester United are hopeful of having their proposed new stadium open within the next six years, the stadium development CEO has said.

There has been little public progress since, although the £2 billion project has moved on “behind the scenes” according to stadium development CEO Collette Roche.
The club estimates that after securing the necessary land and financing, the stadium will take between “four and five years” to build.
And Roche insists the timeline has always been to open the doors ahead of the 2032-33 season at the latest.
“I think when we launched the idea of a new stadium 12 months ago, we did say it would take between four and five years for construction and that’s right,” said Roche.
“But I think people read that as we might have the stadium ready for 2030. But as you know, with a stadium build as complex as the one that we’re going to enter into, it does take one or two years to get ready for construction.
“To get the land assembled, to get the funds in place and to get the planning permission. So that’s the part that we’re doing right now. So we’ve not named a date for opening, but we are on track within those timescales.”
Although the new stadium is set to be built on the site of Old Trafford, the club require some surrounding land for the project.
Negotiations with rail freight and logistics company Freightliner have been particularly problematic, but Roche said the club were hopeful of making an announcement “in the next few months” after positive talks.
“Some of the examples of progress we’ve made are first and foremost in land assembly,” said Roche.
“We want to make sure we get the best possible position for this stadium, one which has got plenty of land around it to put the right facilities in place, one that’s connected and offers a great match day experience.
“I’ve been spending a lot of time talking to all the local landowners to understand where that needs to be, and we’re progressing that really, really well, and I’m hoping to be able to share some positive news on that front in the next few months.”

Tiger Woods made his return to golf on Tuesday night, participating in The Golf League (TGL) Finals, and he had a supporting cast in the stands.
His girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, and her daughter, future University of Miami golfer Kai, had front-row seats at SoFi Center to take in the action.
They did not get the result they wanted, as Woods’ Jupiter Links, with Max Homa, Tom Kim and Kevin Kisner, lost to Los Angeles Golf Club, with Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood. LAGC made three straight eagles to close out a 9-2 victory in Woods’ first competitive golf action in over a year.

The 15-time major champion and Vanessa Trump have kept their relationship relatively quiet. When they went public last year, Woods asked for privacy.
Both Vanessa and Kai attended the Genesis Invitational last month at Riviera, which Woods hosted. Vanessa and Kai attended other TGL events earlier this month as well, including a match in which Kai chatted with Travis Kelce.
Woods announced his relationship with Vanessa Trump, Donald Jr.’s ex-wife, on March 23, 2025.
“Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side! We look forward to our journey through life together. At this time we would appreciate privacy for all those close to our hearts,” Woods wrote in his post.
A report in July said the two were “very serious,” and “wedding bells” could be chiming, but nothing along those lines has been made public.

Woods’ son, Charlie, and Vanessa’s daughter, Kai, are both competitive golfers. Kai has committed to play at the University of Miami, while Charlie will attend Florida State.
Charlie and Kai played in the same tournament in June.
After his highly publicized divorce from Elin Nordegren, Woods was linked to Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn in the 2010s. He was dating Erica Herman at the time he won the Masters in 2019, but they, too, had a very public breakup that included sexual harassment allegations and an NDA lawsuit filed by Herman.
Woods and Nordegren have appeared to get along in recent years, as they co-parent Charlie and Sam Woods.
One step in Woods’ return is complete as he aims to play at the Masters in two weeks. He has yet to commit, but it’s tough to imagine Augusta National without the five-time green jacket winner.

Hezbollah chief urges unity, no talks with Israel amid Lebanon attacks
Naim Qassem says negotiating with Israel ‘under fire amounts to imposing surrender’ on Lebanon.

Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem has called for national unity as Israel continues its military assault on Lebanon, vowing to continue fighting “without limits” as Israeli aerial and ground attacks have killed more than 1,000 people across the country.
In a statement on Wednesday, Qassem said the country faced two choices: “either surrender and give up our land … or inevitable confrontation and resistance” against Israel.

Qassem also said Lebanon should not agree to negotiations with the Israeli government amid Israel’s continued bombardment of its northern neighbour.
“Negotiating with the Israeli enemy under fire amounts to imposing surrender and stripping Lebanon of its capabilities, especially since negotiations are fundamentally rejected with an enemy that occupies land and continues daily aggression,” he said.
“We call for national unity against the Israeli-American enemy under one title at this stage: stopping the aggression to liberate the land and the people. All other issues can be discussed afterward.”
Intensified Israeli attacks on Lebanon began in early March after Hezbollah launched rockets towards Israeli territory following the start of the US and Israel’s war on Iran on February 28.
In addition to air strikes, the Israeli military has pushed deeper into Lebanese territory as part of a ground invasion that Israel says aims to root out Hezbollah fighters.
The Lebanese armed group has continued to fire into northern Israel while clashing with Israeli troops on the ground in Lebanon.
The escalating conflict, which has killed at least 1,072 people across Lebanon and displaced more than 1.2 million others, has drawn global condemnation and growing calls for de-escalation.
Far-right Israeli lawmakers, including Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, have called for the annexation of southern Lebanon amid intensified military operations in the area.
The annexation push has drawn condemnation from foreign leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, who has been calling for negotiations to try to end the deadly violence.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese government has outlawed Hezbollah military activity and said it wanted to engage in direct talks with Israel.
The Israeli government has shown no sign of tempering its military offensive, with Defence Minister Israel Katz saying last week that displaced residents of southern Lebanon will not be able to return to their homes until northern Israel is safe.

What exactly is an air taxi?
An air taxi, also called an eVTOL, is a small electric aircraft that can take off and land vertically. Think helicopter without the noise and cost. These aircraft are designed to move people short distances across cities or regions. You could skip traffic entirely and fly from one part of a city to another in minutes.
The pitch is simple:
- Faster than driving
- Cheaper than helicopters
- Cleaner than traditional aircraft.
It sounds great. But getting there has been anything but simple.
Why air taxis are still waiting on FAA approval
The biggest hurdle has not been technology. It has been regulation. The FAA requires commercial aircraft to meet extremely high safety standards. We are talking about failure rates closer to commercial airlines than cars.
That creates a problem. Traditional aircraft follow well-known designs. eVTOLs are completely new. They take off vertically, then transition into forward flight. That adds complexity and risk.
Companies like Joby Aviation, Archer Aviation and others have spent years testing. Some have logged thousands of flights. Still, full approval has remained just out of reach.
How the FAA is fast-tracking air taxis in the U.S.
Now comes a major shift. The government has launched a new initiative called the eVTOL Integration Pilot Program. The goal is to speed things up without lowering safety standards.
Instead of waiting for full nationwide approval, companies can begin limited operations in specific areas. This rollout breaks from the old all-or-nothing approval model. Instead of waiting years for full certification, companies can now prove safety in real-world conditions and expand from there.
Eight pilot programs have been approved across the country, including:
- New York and New Jersey, with flights from Manhattan heliports
- Texas connecting cities like Dallas, Austin and San Antonio
- Florida testing passenger flights, cargo and medical use
- North Carolina and Virginia are exploring autonomous operations.

These pilot programs span 26 states, creating one of the largest real-world test environments for next-generation aircraft. These aircraft will not just carry passengers. They will support cargo delivery, emergency medical response and regional transportation. Data from these pilot programs will help the FAA create new rules to safely expand air taxi use nationwide. That last part matters more than it seems.
“This is the clearest sign yet from the White House, the FAA and the DOT that bringing air taxis to market in the United States is a real priority,” said Adam Goldstein, founder and CEO of Archer. “We appreciate Secretary Duffy and Administrator Bedford’s leadership and are excited to bring Midnight to the skies of some of America’s largest cities.”
Why air taxis are part of a U.S. vs China aviation race
This push is not only about getting you across town faster. It is also about keeping up. China has already moved ahead in drones and air mobility. Companies there have been running real commercial passenger flights since 2023.
Meanwhile, drones have changed modern warfare and logistics. They are cheap, effective and scalable. The U.S. wants to lead again. That means accelerating innovation across civilian and military systems. Air taxis are one piece of that bigger strategy.
The autonomy factor no one is talking about enough
Here is where things get even more interesting. Many of these aircraft are designed to become autonomous. At first, you will likely see pilots on board. But long-term, the goal is to remove them. Why? Pilots add weight. They increase the cost. They limit scalability.
Companies are already testing highly automated systems that can handle complex flight decisions in real time. That means the version of air taxis you see in the next few years may not be the final version.

This is where it gets real. Air taxis will not replace your car overnight. But they could start changing how you think about getting around. Here is how it could impact you:

So when will you actually be able to ride one?
The timeline is finally getting clearer. You may start seeing limited operations as early as summer 2026. That does not mean you can open an app and book a flight right away.
Early access will likely focus on:
- Specific routes
- Controlled environments
- Pilot programs with limited passengers.
But once that door opens, expansion tends to move quickly. We saw it with rideshare. We saw it with electric vehicles. This could follow the same path.
“The first time I saw a Waymo on the road in San Francisco, it was a big deal. Now, self-driving cars are just part of everyday life there. I believe the eIPP will do the same thing for air taxis. Every safe flight builds towards public acceptance, and we need to build that acceptance in parallel with our certification efforts,” said Adam Goldstein, CEO of Archer.

Record share of Americans carry credit card debt, can’t pay monthly bills
A record share of Americans are unable to pay off their monthly credit card bills, compounding money woes for U.S. residents grappling with affordability concerns, according to a recent analysis.
Roughly 111 million people — 50% of Americans with a credit card and 40% of the U.S. adult population — carry credit card debt, according to a joint report from The Century Foundation, a left-leaning think tank, and the advocacy group Protect Borrowers. That’s a 17% increase from the 95 million who were in the same situation five years earlier, the report found.
The findings show that Americans were unable to pay their monthly credit card bills even before the war in Iran drove up oil and gas prices, now closing in on $4 a gallon, The Century Foundation president Julie Margetta-Morgan told CBS News. With fuel costs about 34% higher than a month ago, many households may find themselves even more financially strained, she said.
“We were already in an impossible financial situation for most consumers. Now gas prices are rising, and those are rippling throughout the economy,” she said.
Skipping meals
One-quarter of Americans say they have skipped meals to cover their monthly expenses, while one-third report delaying or skipping medical care, a separate study from The Century Foundation found in December.
“And that was before gas prices spiked,” Margetta-Morgan said.
Credit card debt is costly to hold, with the average interest rate standing at 23.7%, according to LendingTree.
Consumers “are both carrying a high level of debt and paying exorbitantly high levels of interest on it,” Margetta-Morgan said. “We are in an unprecedented situation that keeps growing month to month.”
With financial pressures mounting on many households, some are tapping other sources of money, with a record share of Americans dipping into their 401(k)s to cover emergency expenses. Financial experts caution against such a step because tapping retirement assets can lead to penalties and may reduce a person’s financial readiness for retirement.
$2.1 trillion in credit card interest
President Trump in January floated a proposal that would cap credit card interest rates at 10%, to prevent Americans from being “ripped off” by card issuers, he said at the time. But the cap has not come to fruition.
The banking industry has pushed back on Mr. Trump’s proposed limit, arguing that it would crimp consumers’ access to credit and direct them toward riskier lending products.
Margetta-Morgan said high credit card interest rates are a profit center for banks and card companies, and accused them of “jacking up the cost of debt for people at every turn.” Americans have paid banks and card companies $2.1 trillion in credit card interest since 2010, according to the report.
A 10% cap would save Americans $368 million in interest a day, the report found.
Margetta-Morgan is concerned that rising gas prices could be the factor the push some 40% of the population over the financial brink.
“People are just squeezing out minimum payments on credit cards, and it’s very possible that we’ll see people tipping over the edge and be unable to afford keeping up with their debt,” she said.

In a video shared by MAFS following her death, she said: “As a woman, I think it’s important that we support each other, that we empower each other, that we don’t compete with each other. That we give other women an opportunity to shine.”
