YouTube TV quietly adds new channels to lineup for customers
YouTube TV quietly expanded its channel lineup this week with several new additions.
The streaming service recently updated its official channel directory to include networks such as HBCU Go, Cars.TV, Pets.TV and TheGrio, which are all part of Allen Media Group.
HBCU Go is a network focused on historically Black colleges and universities. The channel features college sports coverage, documentaries, cultural programming and events centered around HBCU communities.
Cars.TV caters to automotive enthusiasts, while Pets.TV focuses on animal-related content. The Grio, meanwhile, provides news, entertainment and lifestyle programming targeting Black audiences.
The additions appear to be part of a growing partnership between YouTube TV and Allen Media Group, the media company founded by entrepreneur Byron Allen, who also serves as the chairman and CEO of AMG.
In May, YouTube TV renewed its carriage agreement with AMG, ensuring subscribers kept access to The Weather Channel. The agreement also kept Comedy.TV, Justice Central and Recipe.TV on streaming service.
“We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Google by continuing to provide our weather, news, comedy, court, and lifestyle networks to YouTube TV’s millions of subscribers,” Allen said in a statement at the time, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Emily Washkowitz, YouTube’s head of TV and film partnerships, added, “We are pleased to continue our relationship with Allen Media Group. Our goal is to provide a consistent and diverse lineup for our subscribers, and this renewed agreement helps us maintain that commitment.”
The channel expansion comes after YouTube TV recently began offering lower-cost, genre-specific plans, like Sports and Entertainment, alongside its $82.99-per-month base package of more than 100 channels.
How to wash your fruits and vegetables to stay safe from diarrhea-causing parasite
Cases of a diarrhea-causing parasitic infection are rapidly rising across the U.S., forcing warnings from experts about food safety.
Cyclosporiasis is typically spread by exposure to contaminated produce and public health officials believe some of the 7,000 cases nationwide were tied to lettuce.
The best way to stay safe is to avoid foods linked to an outbreak, or heat food to 158 degrees Fahrenheit which kills the cyclospora parasite.
Vigorously and carefully washing food can also help reduce the risk. However, some foods are easier to wash than others and how you do so matters.
“While washing alone may not fully eliminate cyclospora, it enhances protection when combined with cooking or peeling,” Michigan’s health department states.
Buying food that’s prewashed does not guarantee safety, either, the department said.
Firm fruits and vegetables like melons, potatoes and cucumbers, should be scrubbed hard using a clean vegetable brush under running water. Then do a final rinse.
That can help to remove dirt and germs from the surface, according to the Indiana Department of Health.
“Even if you plan to peel produce, germs on the outside can be transferred to the inside when you cut it,” the department cautioned.
For softer produce, such as stone fruits and tomatoes, rubbing under water is the way to go.
The outer layers of leafy greens or cabbage should be separated while washing, the Food and Drug Administration says.
“Food safety rarely depends on one perfect action. It depends on several layers of protection working together,” Darin Detwiler, a food safety expert at Northeastern University, told Good Housekeeping.
Soap, bleach, detergent or other household cleaners should never be used on fresh fruits and vegetables, Penn State University warns. They are not intended for use on foods and may leave harmful residues.
These cleaning agents are unable to affect the parasite’s protective outer layer, Don Stoeckel, an environmental biologist and special projects lead at Cornell Produce Safety Alliance, told The Washington Post.
“Likewise, vinegar, baking soda and commercial produce washes have not been shown to eliminate Cyclospora from contaminated produce,” it said.
Vinegar cannot eliminate the parasite but there is some research that showed a solution of vinegar and water helped to remove it from raspberries. Though, that could be because of the swishing motion they used and the same was not seen for blueberries, which only required water.

A recent study suggests GLP-1-related weight loss may improve some women’s relationships and employment status.
Rebecca Diamond, professor of economics at Harvard University in Boston, independently published research that found an association between weight-loss medications and a change in women’s social and economic outcomes.
Diamond used the Understanding America Study, a panel survey from the University of Southern California, to compare women who started GLP-1s for weight loss to those who wanted to start but had not yet done so.

The comparison considered body mass, health, income, employment, partnership status and well-being before treatment.
The study focused on women because they are more likely to use GLP-1s than men. It excluded people taking GLP-1 drugs for diabetes, as their use is driven by a medical condition rather than weight-loss demand.

Marriage and cohabitation rose 29% for single women after about 18 months.

Among women who were not employed at the start of the study, job prospects increased by 27% after the same amount of time. Those who were already employed did not display any clear upward progress in their careers, however.
Diamond argues that these findings suggest part of the “female obesity penalty” comes from how people are judged when being matched up, either in a new relationship or a new job.

Dr. Peter Balazs, MD, a hormone and weight-loss specialist from New York and New Jersey, commented on these findings.
“The effects showed up during ‘new match’ situations, such as job interviews or dating, and not within existing jobs or relationships,” Balazs, who was not involved in the study, told Fox News Digital. “This says more about societal bias than it does about the medication itself.”

Balazs said his patients often report feeling more confident and “visible” after weight loss, which could translate into better interview performance and networking.

Dr. Krishna Vyas, a plastic surgeon at Blechman Plastic Surgery in New York, told Fox News Digital in a separate interview that many patients seek breast lifts or body contouring after significant GLP-1 weight loss, after which they find themselves “re-engaging with life.”

“That confidence effect is real in the exam room,” said the surgeon, who also was not involved in the research. “This study, however, showed no clear improvement in depression, loneliness or life satisfaction, even as marriage and employment rates climbed dramatically.”
“The opportunities opened, yet the women didn’t report feeling better, which suggests it was largely the gatekeepers who changed, not the women.”
Potential limitations
Because this was an observational study rather than a randomized clinical trial, it could only show an association — not cause and effect. The findings are also considered preliminary because the paper has not yet been peer-reviewed, the author acknowledged.
“Additionally, since the study only looked at women, that introduces another layer of potential bias,” Balazs noted. “I’d be interested to see whether the findings would be the same if the study included men or compared them directly.”

Another limitation is that the information from the individuals studied was self-reported, the expert noted.
The researchers were also unable to determine whether people who found new jobs were earning more money.

“Additionally, even though GLP-1 users appeared to have better outcomes on paper, they did not report greater overall life satisfaction,” Balazs added. “That raises important questions about whether these external changes translate into meaningful improvements in well-being.”

Britain’s incoming Prime Minister Andy Burnham used his first speech as Labour leader Friday to condemn the economic model established in the 1980s by Margaret Thatcher and promise greater public control of essential services, signaling a shift to the left from outgoing Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Burnham, who will formally become prime minister Monday, said that Britain had taken “a series of wrong turns in the 1980s,” when political power was centralized and economic power was transferred to private companies. He was unopposed to run as party leader, having been nominated by 379 Members of Parliament to lead it.
“The country surrendered control of the essentials — housing, water, energy, transport — and left people exposed to higher costs,” Burnham said during the July 17 speech in London, according to a transcript of his remarks.

He declared that four decades of neoliberal economic policy had “not been kind” to the working-class and industrial communities that traditionally supported Labour and described his ascent as the country’s most significant political turning point in 40 years.
“The government I lead will confidently lay that path out starting next week,” Burnham said. “That is why this change today is the most significant change moment in our politics for 40 years.
Alan Mendoza, executive director of the Henry Jackson Society, said Burnham’s speech offered a clear ideological signal but little detail about how his government would carry it out. “With Burnham, there is a lot of light and heat, but not much actual substance,” he added. “We are all still waiting to see what that substance might be.”

Mendoza said, “If he thinks Britain has been on the wrong track for the last 40 years, what is the right track? Is it socialism of a past kind? Is it some form of statism? What does he actually intend to do?”
Burnham’s speech offered the clearest indication yet that the former Greater Manchester mayor intends to move the party away from Starmer’s more cautious economic positioning and toward greater state ownership, expanded council and social housing, giving more power to regional government and increased state involvement in essential services.
Burnham said Labour would no longer attempt to imitate the right and far-left parties. “We won’t try to out-Green the Greens or out-Reform Reform.”
Although he did not explicitly advocate returning Britain to the 1970s or refer to the late Lady Thatcher by name, free-market critics portrayed his attack on her reforms as an effort to revive the state-dominated economic policies that preceded her government.
Britain experienced the Winter of Discontent in 1978-79, when millions of workers participated in widespread strikes over pay that disrupted daily life. The strikes left trash uncollected, reduced hospital services and affected public transportation. The unrest is widely seen as a major factor in the election of Margaret Thatcher’s Conservatives in 1979 as voters turned against the unions and the Labour government of that time.

The Adam Smith Institute responded to his speech by publishing a lengthy defense of the Thatcher era, highlighting reductions in income and corporate tax rates, privatizations, rising homeownership and fewer days lost to labor strikes.
“Since you mentioned the 1980s, Andy Burnham, here’s a reminder of what was achieved,” the free-market think tank wrote before listing economic indicators it said improved during the period.
According to the free-market think tank, the top rate of income tax fell from 83% to 40%, the basic rate dropped from 33% to 25%, and corporation tax was reduced from 52% to 35%. It said inflation declined from a peak of 21.9% in 1980 to 2.4% in 1986, while the number of working days lost to strikes fell from 29.5 million in 1979 to 1.9 million in 1990. The institute also said homeownership rose from 55% to 67%, the number of individual shareholders increased from 3 million to 11 million, and national debt fell from 47% of gross domestic product to 28%.
Emma Schubart, a research fellow at the Henry Jackson Society who previously worked at the Adam Smith Institute, told Fox News Digital that Burnham’s speech demonstrated what she described as a fundamental misunderstanding of taxation and economic incentives.
“The biggest takeaway is that he comes across as pretty economically illiterate,” Schubart said in an interview Friday. She called Burnham’s “demonization” of Thatcher polices “strange and needless.”

Schubart argued that Burnham’s message was internally contradictory because he presented his leadership as a national renewal while proposing to dismantle reforms associated with the 1980s.
“He keeps saying he’s bringing a renewal to the U.K. and a new chapter,” she said. “But then he also says, ‘We’re going to go back to the ’70s.’ You have to pick one.”
Burnham nevertheless insisted he would be a “pro-business leader,” while calling for greater public control of essential services, new powers for regional governments and closer cooperation with private businesses.

The ideological shift presents an immediate political gamble. Burnham must unite Labour’s competing factions, reassure financial markets and respond to Reform UK’s growing challenge — all while taking office without winning a national election.
Mendoza warned that Burnham’s effort to appeal to the left could complicate relations with the Trump administration. “The government could most definitely clash with the United States under Burnham’s vision, because the voters he is trying to bring back into his tent include many of those who are deeply hostile to America.
“If he adopts U.S.-friendly policies, he risks alienating the voting coalition he is trying to create,” he continued. “But if he decides to pick fights with the United States, he risks damaging British national security and the alliance with America, which matters far more to the country than any electoral coalition.”
Burnham is expected to be sworn in as prime minister on Monday by King Charles III.
World Cup 2026: Is MetLife Stadium the right choice to host the final?
Ask locals and they will confirm that the stadium has long had a poor reputation.
“For lack of a better word, the technical term for MetLife Stadium is ‘blah’,” says long-time New Jersey sports columnist Steve Politi. One of his readers once compared its appearance to a giant prison toilet, another to a big air conditioner.
The stadium is home to two American football franchises, the New York Giants and the New Jersey Jets – and Politi explains that, by design, the stadium had to fit a lot of different people’s wants and needs.
He said the result was a soulless, large empty building that, for many fans, did not quite live up to its $1.6bn price tag.
Opened in 2010, the stadium has a modern metallic louvered exterior, with programmable lighting that can glow in any colour. It is one of the largest stadiums used in the NFL, and adjustments can be made for concerts and other events, with an open-air bowl that fits 82,500 spectators and 200 luxury suites across four levels. It has hosted everything from a Super Bowl and Wrestlemania to Paul McCartney and Beyonce concerts.
The multi-purpose venue is five miles west of Manhattan on a former swamp surrounded by highways, a 750-acre area known as the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The area is generally difficult to navigate without a car, and even then it is very congested.
Fans who took rideshares had to navigate winding lanes of traffic and closed roadways to find their way to the correct drop-off zone.
Those who took shuttles, or the 20,000 people who took the train, had an easier experience. Although they were frustrated by the high price – $98 a ticket for NJTransit tickets – and having to wait in large crowds to board the trains, most were pleased with the efficient commute itself.
“There was a little bit of a delay to get in, but it was OK,” says 56-year-old Jason Bentham, who travelled over from Manchester. His main complaint about his experience, though, was the high cost of beers at the stadium. Of the three venues he visited – he also went to Boston – his favourite was Atlanta, which is air conditioned, unlike MetLife Stadium.
“The stadium [in Atlanta] was amazing,” he says. “It was scorching hot when I was outside so when we got inside it had the roof on and it was all air conditioned, unbelievable stadium… and the beers were not as expensive.”
Still, the city he enjoyed the most overall, hands down, was New York, where he also watched the darts competition at Madison Square Garden and enjoyed the atmosphere and bars of the city.
To Fifa, that is the appeal of MetLife Stadium – its access to the largest media market.
Paris’ Grand Mosque celebrates its 100th anniversary and interfaith dialogue
PARIS — A hundred years ago, Paris erected a monumental mosque to honor Muslim soldiers from French colonies who fought in World War I. It’s now an integral part of the capital’s bustling Latin Quarter, and as it celebrates its centenary, worshippers are reflecting on being Muslim in today’s France.
The rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris sees it as a symbol of interfaith dialogue and France’s diversity, but worries about religious tensions in the country linked to conflicts in the Middle East and the polarizing campaign for next year’s presidential election.
“It’s the responsibility of everyone to see Muslims as a part of the national community,” Chems-eddine Hafiz told The Associated Press.
Visitors arriving for 100th anniversary prayers Friday included people from different regions around Paris, those born in France or those who came over the decades from Algeria, Senegal and beyond. Many trace their origins to France’s colonial empire.
The Paris City Hall’s official tourism website lists the mosque as a top attraction, calling its ornate, carpeted prayer room a “must-see.” Inspired by the Alhambra in Spain’s Granada, the mosque has a 33-meter (108-foot)-high minaret that overlooks the Seine River — complementing but not overshadowing the twin towers of nearby Notre Dame Cathedral. The mosque houses a popular tea room and hammam steam baths.
But most of all it is a place of worship and history.
French authorities wanted to honor the ‘’blood spilled″ during WWI by Muslim soldiers who died in trenches of Verdun and beyond to defend France, Hafiz said. Most came from colonies in Africa.
“When it was built, French President Gaston Doumergue made a declaration reminding us that France’s diversity could only reinforce its national community,” Hafiz said, calling it a ”beautiful message.”
“I believe the political will and the political message have remained unchanged” since 1926, he said. ‘’The problem lies in people’s attitudes. Today, anti-Muslim acts are still being committed against Muslims. Islam is often misunderstood, and talking about Muslims or Islam can trigger hostility.”
Islam is now the second religion in France, which has the largest Muslim population in Western Europe. But the country’s Muslims often struggle to gain full acceptance and face discrimination. Stigmas against Muslims worsened after deadly Islamic extremist attacks in France over the past decade.
France is in the midst of a campaign for next year’s presidential election so far dominated by Marine Le Pen and her far-right National Rally, which has targeted Islam and immigration.
Fatma Chouchane, a volunteer at the Grand Mosque, lamented restrictions on women wearing Muslim headscarves in French schools and some workplaces.
“I ask France to leave these people alone” and let them make their religious choices, she said.
Like other worshippers at Friday’s prayers, however, she focused on messages of tolerance and celebrating the mosque anniversary.
“It’s a symbol, it is the Paris museum for Muslims,″ she said. ″We must all be in solidarity.″
For Ibrahima Seye, the mosque was one of the first places he visited after arriving in France from Senegal.
“It’s always open,” he said. “It’s good for the Muslim community, and I see that it’s a mosque that is appreciated by a lot of tourists, too.″

The two competitors met on stage with New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns coming in between them. The NFL legend then attempted to slap the WWE star before they were pulled apart before things could really escalate.

Brady suggested in an interview on WWE star Cody Rhodes’ podcast “What Do You Wanna Talk About?” that he would want to get involved in a match.
“I need to get an invite. I’ve been waiting for (WWE president) Nick Khan to come up with some storyline for me to get in the mix,” Brady said Thursday. “I feel like I’m retired from football, and I have an opportunity to go out there and still showcase that I’m a little bit of an athlete.”

More than 900 wildfires are burning across Canada, sending smoke into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, though a storm system moving through Saturday could help clear some of the haze.
The Midwest and Upper Great Lakes are expected to see poor air quality through the weekend as northwesterly winds push a plume of smoke into the region.
Meanwhile, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Level 3 of 5 risk for severe storms across parts of the Ohio Valley, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Major cities along the Interstate 95 corridor, including New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., could be affected. Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Buffalo are also expected to see strong storms.

The rounds of showers and storms will bring the threat of damaging winds, hail, a few tornadoes and chances for flash flooding in certain areas.
Flood watches are in effect for parts of the Northeast, including New York City and Philadelphia, through Saturday evening as heavy rainfall could trigger flash flooding.
Elsewhere, monsoonal moisture is expected to extend from West Texas and southern New Mexico into central and northern Arizona and southern Utah, where daytime heating could trigger thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
A severe storm threat also extends into parts of Virginia and the Carolinas, where scattered storms could produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall as Charlotte, Raleigh and Virginia Beach are among the cities that could be affected.
